Hello,

Does any one know of a new surgical, therapeutic or pharmaceutical treatment method within the last five years.
Any help will be great :)

PRP has probably only been around about 5years and is only recently becoming widely available. Etra-corporeal shockwave has been around a bit longer.

Laser hobday has only been around that long, I think?

Infra red treatment for injuries is pretty new too.

How old is MRI scanning of horses? I don't think they have had the machines to do horses longer than a few years, though humans a bit longer.

Barefoot rehabilitation of foot lameness (navicular, ddft, impar ligament and collateral ligament strain) has only been available from a commercial rehab centre for about 3 years (see rockleyfarm.co.uk)

Hello,

Thank you for your comments, i'm going to look at Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy but i cant find any where on when it was first used.

Im hoping it wasnt before 2005 :/

All of the other thing you mentioned were discovered/used prior to 2006 however they were not used commercially (nor developed for commercial use) until the last 5 years. PRP has been used experiementally in human medicine since 1999 I believe but is a very recent addition to equine medicine. I remember an equine vet in New York introduing it to his (referral) practice in 2008. This was very much a new development. Vetcell offer this as did Biovet/Biocell i think it was but cant find a link. Biocell was/is one of the biggest companies for it - I went to a 2 day demo/lecture on stem-cells and PRP with them in NY in 2008. PRP in commercial use is newer than stem cell therapy.
MRI for horses has been in the UK since 2002.
