There is a new sweet itch blanket on the market that stops bacterial growth and itching in wounds, which causes a sweet itch. It retails at £1200 and comes as a combo for adding other rugs for a little bit more. I have just bought one, and if it works, I think it will be a game changer. Has anyone else got one?

no, sorry i meant, the bacterial growth from the wounds that occur after all the scratching. For the ones that dont respond to all the other stuff on the market to try and manage it, so it just gets worse.
 
Infected wounds mean bad management. I had a bad sweetich case for years and cursed myself for slipping up if there ever was an open wound. They certainly shouldn't be in a position. To scratch on anything and give themselves wounds.
How else are you managing the sweet itch? What rug did you use previously?

Really? You did a survey on SI for uni? Yet you don't even seem to grasp the basics of the initial causes SI. Most certainly not the bacterial growth and itching as a cause of SI, that comes later not as an initial cause. Perhaps look a little closer at cause and effect in SI horses.

I am sorry to be critical but many, many new owners of SI horses trawl the net looking for information on SI and how to treat it. Incorrect information can only be damaging for a horse that is already uncomfortable and distressed.

Just looked back and saw your survey posts from 6 years ago. How did that go? What have you been doing since then? Any work for companies making sweet itch rugs?

As someone with a SI pony there is no way in hell I would ever spend £1200 on a rug for her. Sorry.

£1200?! Is this the definition of retail optimism?

That's more than I've spent on SI rugs in 7 years...and this is for a horse out with rug destroyers.

If the horse has infected wounds, I'd be questioning the owner's management.
