I'd like to put my friesian mare (unrecorded breeding) in foal to a well known ISH stallion via artificial insemination, will be frozen sperm.

1. My vet has a program where they'll do all the insemination work involved etc

2. Is there any rules to what can be bred with big named sports horses? Would my mare be 'allowed' to be bred to him.

3. She is currently in foal to another full friesian for April 2023. I would like to put her in foal with the ISH for 2024. Any issues with this time line and having foaly at foot?

4. What passport could I use for the new friesian sports foal with one side full recoded and one side not? Would love to compete him in the future.

5. I've had mares in foal before but never actually done the breeding part. What do I need to do or anything I've missed in terms of legalities?

6. Names. Am I restricted at all with a show name for 2024 foaly.

7. I do plan to keep both foals and possibly mum for the long term. Only looking to breed her this once. The sire is my late horses sire hense my want to use him in particular.

Your timing for frozen needs to be spot on- within 6 hours of ovulation so it's easiest to send them to stud/ the vets to scan often enough. Order the semen to arrive in plenty of time so it's in the tank ready for when you need it.
You'll be able to get a basic identity passport with the sire's recorded breeding through most societies such as SHBGB, assuming he's graded. Some stallions are only available to graded/ proven mares, but very few.
