Hi I have recently joined the forum and have really enjoyed reading the posts, it seems like a really friendly forum. I am having a few probs with my mare so thought this place would be the best place to ask for advice (sorry for the long post)
I am 29 have been riding for 19 years, I recently lost my first pony Charlie (who I learned to ride on) I currently have a 15.2hh Bay SSH Rosie and her foal Bailey (born end of May). I really enjoy dressage and riding club activities.
Bailey is Rosies first foal and everything was fine in the beginning she was a fab mum. I have been going every night and just spending time with them in the field, giving them a groom, putting a halter on Bailey, touching him all over and started leading him. Sometimes I just sit in the field with them. He is really good and loves learning new things(just like his mum)
Rosie is very intelligent, she gets bored easily and loves working. I noticed a few weeks back she was starting to get a tad bored so started doing some inhand work etc (we have 3 foals who are in with the herd - they all play and have no issues they protect the foals)
Before I left I noticed that Rosie was becoming a tad jealous when I went near Bailey (Just putting ears back.)
My big problem is Rosie is getting really jealous, my sis has been coming up and doing stuff with Rosie while I do something with Bailey and then we swap(sis getting experience with bigger horses and youngsters). But when I am about Rosie bites him, pushes him away threatens to kick, wont let him suckle or anything.
I dont know what to do about it. I always speak to her first, give her a groom etc, going to start leading them to the yard, but not sure whether to start bringing her back into work getting a tad concerned about them being in the same stable during the winter (wasnt going to wean til spring as he will be 6 months at end of Nov). But from what others say it only happens when I am there. Such a nightmare coz want Bailey to be leading so I can do more with her.
Sorry for the long post but dont know what to do (didnt have this prob when I got Rosie at 6months)
