I thought I'd better introduce myself, as if been lurking a while! I'm Emma from West Yorkshire. I have a 3 year old Sec D called David, I got him last September, and he was a impulse buy! I'd given up horses 2 years earlier after a bad experience with a dealer(another story!), but when I saw him I had to have him. I've never had a youngster before, and although its a learning curve I'm loving every minute of it! His Sire is Foryd Victor and his Dam is an unknown mare called Cadi (Sire Gwenllan Brenin Mon, Dam Breinol Flying Lady). I'd love to hear from anyone that has a Welsh with similar breeding. Anyway what do you all think (be kind please!), he has has a hard winter with a few problems, and lost weight, but he's just starting to pick up. Please ignore his bald face, not sure what it was, but D-Itch seems to have worked and he's now looking a lot better!

Hello
k015.gif

Welcome to the forum.
David is lovely. I love welshies. Once he has some spring grass in his belly he'll look grand. :D :D

Thanks Everyone! He's coming on nicley. I'm glad you all think he looks ok, as I was quite worried about him a few weeks back! I want him to put weight on slowly, and I think we have just about got the balance right! I'm looking forward to a great summer with him, and am hoping to back him towards the end of Summer.

Hi there and welcome to you both :O)
Your lad looks like a nice sort i do like welsh cobs with a good shoulder and your boy looks like he will come on nicely with a bit of tlc.
If you click on my name it will show my old post and there is one there with a before and after pics of my section d Denny. the first pics shows him as a scrawny 3yr old fresh from a dealer and the second pic is 8 months later. the before pics is very simular to your boy so it may give you an idea of what your lad will will look like soon.
Good luck with your beautiful boy and keep us posted.
Teresa

he is yummy!!!!! :)

Very good impulse buy! ;)

also the baldness on his nose....... it looks like a common presentation of sweet itch.... might be worth investigating. Or he may have just had a reaction to something but if you have found something that is sorting it out then good!

I look forward to his updates as he will be a stunning horse!

Thanks Teresa Denny is gorgeous! I think David has got a long way to go before he looks like that! He is all bum at the moment, and is still really narrow in front! Can I ask how old Denny was when you backed him? I have been doing the basics with David, and he's now lunging nicley. I hoping to back him later on in Summer and try to hack him around the block before turning him away for winter.

Lucy - My first thought was SI, although not sure now, as it seems to have cleared uo too easy!!

My old mare used to get these patches on her face every spring time - we gave her the homeopathic remedy - arsnic & sulphur I think? (sp?). Cleared it up a treat.

Welcome to the forum, your pony is lovely!
One thing about his bald patches, my 3 year old section D had a hard winter last year, lost a lot of weight and also had patches like that on her face. I got her teeth done, and the dentist said it was because she had had a problem losing her baby caps on her molars (they lose a set each year until 4 (?) i think, correct me if i'm wrong), and apparently if they don't detach properly they can press into the sinuses and cause pain, and the horse will rub it's face in those areas. If it's clearing up, maybe they have finally come away naturally, but that was the problem for my little Berry, and explained all the problems she had that winter.
Good luck with him, he is great, i have just bought another sec d, i'm hooked!

Thanks for that Jessica I've got my name down for dentist, but that does make sense. He has stopped rubbing it now, but it is still swollen. I'm also hooked to Sec Ds wouldn't have anything else!
