Hello
I have a show in about 10 days time. I need some advice on the turnout of me and my pony.

Murphy is a yearling colt. He is a piebald dartmoor x breed. He is fairly lightweight boy.

I know that as he is a part bred he needs to be plaited. Do I have to have a coloured brow band? He has 4 white legs so what should I wear? I have a red waistcoat but that is all.

Also, it will the first time he wears a bit and I appreciate I need to adjust him to this from now - what is the best bit to get. I was just thinking a straight rubber loose ring.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

Are you going to tack farm? If so it's a nice starter show, can't give much advise regarding coloured browbands and such, would have thought you can, regarding colour of trousers normally they say to contrast with the colour of the horses legs, so if your's are white to wear a dark colour, browns through to beiges are the norm. so I'd opt for a darker brown?

Technically it should be a plain brow band butyou'll get away with a coloured one. I always mouth my horses in a rubber straight bar - but get it on before you go to the show or he'll not cope with it at all well. Try and start mouthing him this week so he's got a chance to get used to it prior to the show

most judges at local shows now prefer to see the handler in a hard hat in the youngstock class too. Definately go for a tweed jacket, make sure you've got suitable gloves too and a show cane. I'd also start bitting now to get him/her used to it well before the show, a straight rubber bit is what i use make sure you introduce it low in the mouth to encourage mouthing before hiking it up. Good luck and enjoy!
