New to showing a coloured cob, help please!

Hi All,
Am new to this forum I have recently bought a lovely coloured irish cob rising four mare and am looking for some advice, pointers.
I joined this forum as you all seem to be a friendly knowledgeable bunch, I hope you dont mind me picking your brains ;)!
I am hoping to get Dolly showing this year she has only recently been broken and although shows a lot of promise is not going to be ready for the ridden ring this year, I will do some later on in the summer but not now.
she is fantasticaly marked, although sadly her previous owners hacked her mane off and her feathers so I need to grow these back before I show traditional.
I am starting with a couple of local in hand shows, however i have seen there is a BSPA show in april, so you have to qualify for these? Also what does it take to show at county level, this is my ambition with her. Is there anything blemish wise that prevents horses showing at certain levels?

To upload photos - the way I use requires something like a photobucket account where you can upload photos for free (http://register.photobucket.com/)

Once you have followed the steps to upload photos, open the page for the photo you want to share. On the left side of the page you will see 'IMG Code'. Copy and paste the following code into your post and the photo should appear. :)
 
For county level, which for coloureds is chaps and bspa, you need to be a showing member and your horse needs to be registered - all the details are on their websites...
If you are going in 153cm and under, you will need to get your horse height measured and send a certificate with your entry...in these classes, the judge doesn't ride and spurs are prohobited. Over 153cm the judge rides.
BSPA classes at county are qualifiers for RIHS and chaps tend to be HOYS...
Blemishes of any kind usually rule you out of county level showing - although some can be covered but you have to be careful about using make up if the judge runs his hand over the area and it comes away plastered in make up!! splints, capped hocks, lumps, bumps etc are all severely penalised (other than in Hunter classes where some blemishes can be judged as hunting injuries)...

You don't have to be a member (or your horse) to show in BSPA or CHAPS classes unless they are HOYS or RIHS qualifiers. You would'nt qualify for their own championships either. However if you are only just starting out then why not enter a few of either societies classes and see which one you prefer. Personally I think the BSPA have more classes for traditionals especially at their Championships.
