Hi. Ive been out of the saddle for a year or so now due to a confidence knock and not hopeful to try again anytime soon. However, I have been thinking into maybe taking up in-hand showing(next year due to pregnancy).

It’s not something I have ever done before so am completely new to it and wouldn’t even know where to start.
I have a section B colt rising 1(May 2025) that I would be looking to show. I have no idea what he would need to wear or what I would need to wear myself.
Or would it be worth sending him off for show production so that he has a little bit of experience rather than a novice handler taking a novice pony?

We are based Lancaster North West. Open to suggestions and rough prices for show production or any advice really. Thankyou :)

Congratulations on both babies.

Lovely looking youngster - I love a good welshie!

If I were you I would get out and about as a spectator and see what others are doing.

I showed my youngster once in a white halter, worked out I could barely hold him and put him in an in hand bridle. So it really depends on the pony.

It might be worth sending him away for some winter youngstock showing before you take him out next year to get him in the swing of things.

Thankyou very much! He is lovely bless him. I have thought about spectating so will definitely be doing some of that.

I’ve heard lots of different things about what they can/can’t wear for example I’ve seen that section B’s should only be shown in leather, not sure how true this is.
Have thought about sending him away but again wouldn’t know where or the cost of it all :)

Super excited to be able to get him out :)

You'll find mares and fillies will generally be shown in a white halter.

Young colts and geldings also in a white halter, but it's OK to bridle and some people like a leather halter if it enhances the face/head.

Watch the pro's at the county shows!

It might be worth looking on your local FB page for show producers near you. There is a family that do it local (ish) to us. They charge £130 a week livery, this does not include farrier, jabs, transport, entries etc.

Have a look at TC Showing and Competition Horses on facebook. They are not to far from Runcorn.

He is lovely.

Section Bs are generally shown in leather rather than white halters, so a filly slip would be ideal. He will need to be bitted when he's a 2yo unless he is gelded before then.

You will need a tweed jacket, shirt, tie, plain trousers and comfortable shoes/boots you can run in. Check out some photographers for county shows to get outfit inspiration from section B classes. There's lots of great section B Facebook groups too.

Definitely go and watch a few, and perhaps aim for some small local shows first, if you decide not to send him for producing.

Look out for showing clinics too. I just had a private session with someone who does clinics locally and I learned a lot. In fact we won our class at the next show. Admittedly there were only two entries, but the other lady had done lots of showing and I am a complete beginner.

Congratulations btw!

Amazing well done! Will keep a look out for things like this. Thankyou so much :)
