Have gained so much advise by reading through other peoples threads and decided to try and get some advice from other peoples experiences...
I have a slight dilema, i am currently keeping my horse at grass livery, he is an Irish Draught X, he is not rugged at the minute, he is in great condition, got a fatastic fluffy coat, the field has great drainage, alot of shelter and plenty of space. This is the first year i have kept him out, i had previously had to stable him 24/7 in the winter at old livery yard.
I am looking to move, despite it being lovely and quiet and rarely seeing a soul up there which is pleasant, i would really would like to ride more and he is a fair drive away at the moment so this restricts me time wise. I dont really want him in 24/7 again as he seems so much happier now.
I have viewed 3 yards.

The first, a 10minute drive away, on the way to hubbys work as well so quite convenient. Excellent Value for money with the option to stable your horse at night in the winter. has a menage as well. downside for me is it has alot of people on it and i worry that it may get catty as some yards do. Also they dont have any space for me until April

The second yard, about a 7minute drive away, small farm with 8 other horses, seems nice and quiet, nice stables and paddocks however no school and very expensive. also have to have the horses in by dark and i dont finish work till 5 so i would have to pay and extra £2 a day ontop for the YO to bring my horse in.

The 3rd, was reccomended by the in laws family friend, who I had only met for the first time yesterday, he was very helpful and seemed very knowledgable and very eager to help me out offering to take me to shows and all sorts etc, he just genuinly enjoys helping out and no longer owns his own horse. the yard has a reasonable sized school nice stables and is middley priced however the horses are kept in seperate strips, they can see and touch over the fence but my horse has never ever been kept in this way before and i am worried at how he will react...

Help and Advice please I really dont know what to do for the best!!!

I'd go with 3. I had always left my Gang all in together before a couple of years ago, and now in the summer, when they're out for longer I always split them up, and its saved so much stress with fighting and kicking tbh. None of my lot were in the least concerned that they didn't have another horse in the same patch as them, so I'm. Sure you're ned will be fine :)

Aw well thats a weight off my mind ive been searching back through to forum to find some advice on it and thought, hmmm might save time to just join and ask! lol thanks for the advice, that was my main concern :)

I also would go with number 3. I had the same dilemma when I moved. My youngster had always shared a field 24/7 with a few others and as he is always the quietest kept out of trouble.

It has had no adverse effect on mine even though I was sad for him at first. He is very laid back though.

I would definitely say no. 3. Number one sounds good, but tbh, I like the idea of the horses having their own strip of grazing. They can see and smell neighbours, no kicking matches and best of all, no arguements about whose turn it is to poo pick or check fencing and water, in effect the field is yours to look after!!

Good luck and welcome!! x

How is your horse with other horses? Polo has his 'shadow' companion and they are never more than 3 meters apart (on 3 acres!) they take turns 'on guard' while the other sleeps almost every day and scratch each other often and love a good game of chase!

He was on a yard with individual turn out (big field divided into strips so horse either side) before he came to me and I suspect it was one of the reasons he was so badly behaved there - I'm sure it suits some horses but not all by any means

Shame the first one can't take you unitl April.

the first yard.
April will soon be here.
Just keep yourself to yourself and won't have to get involved with any cattyness that might ne there.

Couldn't have put it better myself. I would hate my horse to be alone when grazing and I also hate electric fencing too as it gives no shelter whatsoever and it's very easy to trash if your horse is used to company.

Welcome, BTW. :)

I don't think I'd risk moving from a yard that offers 24/7 grazing at this stage if that's important to you. I'd go for yard 1 in the spring and stick with current yard till then
