Yesterday we had the wonderful delivery of two pusscats from our local rescue

We got two as these had bonded at their foster home and we thought they'd be happy if they were able to stay together. They're about 5 and 7 months, going by vet's best guess, so not super young but still babies. They'll be indoor cats 'till Spring when they're settled and big enough to face the outside world.

Our dogs are very used to cats having been brought up with them - we lost our last boy to the lane outside our previous home and have been catless for a good few months and I think the Grots have forgotten what the small funny smelling furry things are... though I do remember this response when we got that last two kittens.

Pusscats are in a large crate in the sittingroom, positioned between the two Grots beds and the JackRat's bed, with a blanket over half of it so they have some privacy if they want it. One is staying hiding in the litter box, and one was in attack mode at first, though fine with the humans.

I'll be watching to see how they go in terms of accpeting each other, but was wondering what other folks experiences are of introducing the slightly older kitten to resident dogs. We're in no hurry, though the slightly older/bigger kit would very much like to be out of the crate now thank you very much.

Any experiences much appreciated.

I've always done intros through closed doors to start with, swapping them around after a day or so to exchange scents. It's been a long time since I did cat to dog intros, but I seem to remember we just made private spots available to the kitties, fed them up high so the dog couldn't get their food and left them to it! I have a lovely picture somewhere of our two 6 month old kittens climbing in with the poor dog as he tried to take a nap in his bed.

Thank you. Thought about the closed off room, only the Grots are better when they can see what's going on 🤔

Have a floor to ceiling car tree coming, then the wee fluffs can get out of the way if they want.

You could always borrow a tall stair gate?

Also I hope you mean cat tree. Bringing the car indoors might cause issues. 😆

Ahh super cute, congrats!

I have been declined by 4 rescues so far as my driveway opens up onto a road that is has fairly consistent albeit not high speed traffic (as they all slow here for a T junction), despite being mid-terrace, in a house with an enclosed garden, cat flap, no other pets, quiet household, lifelong cat owner. I have pretty much given up now. They wouldn't even allow me an ex stray which presumably survived living solely on the streets for his 9 years of life so far so must be road savvy to some degree

As an alternative, one of my sisters has rehomed several cats directly from posts on Facebook from owners saying they are looking to rehome for whatever reason. I know when I was looking there were several similar ads on the likes of Preloved and Pets4Homes too. These are sometimes free to a good home or for a small price that's not dissimilar to what you'd need to pay a rescue anyway. Might be worth considering!

I have message a couple of people on Pets4Homes that looked like they needed a soft place to land but no-one has yet ever replied. Perhaps FB may be a better avenue!

Definitely worth a try. I got my boy through Pets4Homes, though I bought from him from a breeder as there weren’t any rescues that jumped out at me at the time, and I knew he was the right cat for me. She’d apparently had over 30 enquiries about him, so perhaps the ones you’d asked about had a similar amount and couldn’t reply to everyone?
