New Trailer Floor or New Trailer?

I have just discovered that my floor in my Ifor Williams HB510 is wooden ( I was in blissfull blonde ignorance that it was aluminium) and needs replacing now! I have two choices (maybe 3 if I rob a bank!) I can either have a new floor put in for about £800 or try and part ex it for a newer trailer...

I would love an equi trek but only have about £2k to put in on top of my trailer so would probably have to stick with an Ifor. The larger trailers seem to be few and far between second hand and don't want one that is only a few years older than mine.

So my dilema is do i just fork out £800 on my trailer and hope nothing else goes wrong ( it has been regularly serviced and looks very good ) or do i try and part ex it for a newer model?

Any comments gratefully recieved including experiences of types of trailer or part exing one. :)
 
New floor for £800 - thats horrendously expensive. Do you know a local handy man type, he should be able to do it for a quarter of the price.
 
I'd say that was extremely expensive too. We had our horse box done complete with new lightweight matts for £700. We took it to an agricultural engineer rather than a horsebox place. Much cheaper.
 
Far too much for a new aluminium floor! - guy round here does them for £300 without mats. You can buy them direct from Ifor williams too - cost about £250. They also do the mats.
 
Friend has hers replaced with an alu floor - cost her about £250. I know for sure she would never have paid £800.
 
It seems I have been duped by a typical male attitude to women when it comes to vehicles, make up a figure then double it! I did have this quote from 3 different trailer dealers but have a local man who I will call later. What is the usual part ex price for an Ifor Williams HB510 in good nick? I've been quoted £1500 but that is with the floor to replace.
 
Ok, so we don't have an Ifor and my dad is very handy with these things, but we replaced the floor in our trailer for about £150 plus the time it took us (best part of a day)... £800 sounds very expensive.

do keep phoning around!
 
I just replaced my horsebox floor (wooden)
£200 by local carpenter - best quality marine grade ply & excellent craft. Need to spend £100 on new mats and sorted.
 
Thanks thats usefull to know. I am taking it to a local trailer service centre for a proper quote tomorrow. Do you think it is saleable as is for someone else to replace the floor?
 
I had this dilemma a few days ago with my 13/14 year old Ifor 510 owned since new. Mine was worse because I was told it needed a new floor now, with new ramps and panels in 6 months time (will also be a good few £100s). After some pondering, I spent the £843 on it now and will have the other work done next year. The ali floor was £425, the labour and service £200, 2 x tyres £70, lights £16, pins £4.40, plug £2.45 plus VAT. This was at an Ifor main dealer. I decided that it was much cheaper than buying a new 511 at £4340 (prefer the 510s anyway) and made more sense than buying another second hand 510 with potential problems. Also, I wanted my trailer NOW as I use it all the time. I decded to go with a main dealer as I wanted to feel 100% sure the floor was done correctly. I think I have made the right decision as the trailer should do another 10+ years after the work and I have never spent much on it before, just servicing.
