Ambling along in the sunshine yesterday with Maisie, round the corner comes 3 lads (I'm crap with ages, prob late teens/early 20's) with an off lead dog - heard shouts of 'Watch it, grab him quick!!' Thankfully Maisie came straight back to me and put her on lead.

As they approached with their dog straining at the lead and growling, they were telling the dog 'friend, friend' WTF?? Yeah right, the dog was really listening to them!

'We're training him', they told me proudly.............oh dear, oh dear :( I'm afraid I was so dumbstruck I just nodded politely and beat a hasty retreat! Should really have suggested that dog shouldn't have been off lead and would they like the number of a reputable trainer, shouldn't I?

Well, it takes all sorts!

I well remember Barbara Woodhouse on one of her clinics with an older woman who owned a very bad tempered Chihuahua.
When the woman had the dog in her arms it attacked anyone who came near.
BW explained that the woman was tense and holding the dog tightly thus making the dog tense so, BW took the dog and held it straddle across her arm then thrusting her arm out with said dog, towards people in the audience and every time she did so she bellowed out "Friend"
Then she handed the dog back to the woman with a leash attached. Immediately the owner had hold of the dog it really snapped at Barbara who gave a jerk on the lead.
The dog flew out of the woman's arm and went splat on the floor. It was not hurt but did shock most people.
Funny thing was that the dog never snapped at anyone who went up to it afterwards!
