New vosa horsebox rules

They will apply to all horseboxes over 3.5 tons whether being built on a new or old chassis (so includes conversions).
All these vehicles will have to go through an examination at one of the 7 stations.
 
Yes it was in h &h 20th November, can't find anything on vosa website. I think it's when say a delivery box truck changes use to a new build horsebox.
 
Mine was type approved, at 3.9 tonnes. It took about 6 weeks to book the appointment, and it was examined by some official, but I was not there so don't know more than that.

I may be wrong, but I think if you have a secondhand chassis the rules do not apply, think it is just for new vehicle chassis. But, I may be wrong.
 
As I can't paste, it is regarding new vehicle type approval for new builds or individual vehicle type approval for conversions. All on DVSA ( new name for vosa!) website!
 
I can't find any new info past 2012 about horseboxes, can you give us a clue with the title of the page?

Edited: found a link. All garbage as usual, typical DVSA. Basically, they have renamed the inspection that always had to be done if you change the use of a vehicle apparently. This has always had to happen.

Don't look for horse boxes! Dvsa does not discriminate against what goes in the vehicle! On dvsa web site ( goes to government page) put vehicle type approval in the search bar.
 
From what we can gather (household has 2 CPC trainers in it) ALL vehicles that are converted to a horsebox that are over 3.5T will need to have the vehicle approval done (in link two posts up). If you already have a horsebox, you don't need to worry, it is only if you are building a box on any age chassis that has never been registered as a horsebox before - if you are doing this, you are making substantial changes to the vehicle so it needs to have the test done to make sure it is roadworthy.

Yes new builds/ conversions! Sure rodge will put everyone straight but, in lay mans terms if you are buying from a dealer or manufacturer they will be more than happy to show you type approval or prove it is not required!
 
Type approved is key word! Friend had an owner that paid a lot of money for a luxury hungarian model, begins with L that sat for 14 weeks waiting to be type approved as was delivered after rule changes!
 
Existing horseboxes will be effected if you replace the container on it or make substantial changes to the existing container. It will have to be inspected by DVSA.
