We have a little female spayed yard cat, she was completely feral but over the 3yrs since she moved in she has become friendly and will even pop in the house for a few hours each evening

She is nervous of other cats having been attacked by a large male feral from a neighbouring farm. We have 3 house cats and a dog in the house which she is scared of.

A few weeks ago a large Tom cat appeared on our yard and was eating her food, he started off not bothering her. He then escalated to chasing and attacking her if he saw her. In the interim i had him scanned for a microchip and found his owners who had been missing him 3yrs

He went back to his owners 6 miles away who had him neutuered but he escaped with the cone and came back here... he has been back 2 weeks and the owners don't seem to want him back

He started off co existing with our little yard cat and I thought the neutering had calmed him but I have seen him chasing her off again. I am worried she is going to get hurt or be dispaced which of course we don't want as this is her home

Anyone successfully managed a similar situation?

yes. It doesn't work. I also have the sweet small female that kept getting hurt. One of them has to stay and one go.
I would take him back to his owners 2 or 3 times and then point out it cannot go on, he is their responsibility and if they don't want him they should take him to the cat's home. If they won't take him you will have to. I had to in a similar situation.

It's no life for a nervous female wondering if someone is waiting to attack her all the time.

Sorry I didn't get a notification of further replies

He did go home eventually after about 6 weeks. His owners kept him in for 6 weeks but the second time he was let out he came back here (only took two days this time). He's been back a few weeks now as his owners are having major works done on their house. He is quite happy at hotel shellonabeach, sleeping in the hay store and earning his food catching mice. Even cats protection are stumped and suggested we consider if he could stay here!

Meanwhile my original little yard cat has decided that perhaps being a house cat isn't so bad and has turned into a a little lap cat! She comes in all night and with the weather turning now chooses to spend the majority of her day lazing around in the lounge and keeping the dog in check!
