I posted a few weeks back about moving my boy to a busier yard. I am alone now and pretty cheesed off and he has been on his own for 4 years although he is in the same field as others but seperated by electric tape. This was because he got his leg fractured in the field and part of his recovery was to be alone and quiet and we just kept it that way as he is a mitherer in the field.
So tomorrow we are moving. It is still a small yard (darent risk anything too big) but he will have friends.... and so will I.
What Im asking is... would you arrive at the yard and turn him out or put him in his new stable?
We have seperated an area of the field ready for him with tape so he can meet his new friends safely and aim to gradually introduce him to the others over the next week or so. He is a stress head, so Im thinking if I put him in his stable he will stress.
What would you do?

You know him best - if you think he will be better in the field, do that. He has his own section, and as long as he doesn't jump over he won't be able to do much harm. Just keep an eye on him for a while. Good luck with the move.x

if hes a stress head, defo put out in field. atleast then if he has an outburst or freaks out hes not in a confined place, plus it will probs help him to go from being in a field but seperated from other horses to the similar environment.

Thanks for replying :)
Im actually dreading it, Ive been on my current yard 9 years and am happy apart from having no one to ride with, laugh with etc etc, Im hoping this will be the making of my boy. I hate him being alone and hope it all ends well.

So its in the field then. Eeeeek Im stressing already :)

Hi,

You know your horse best.

Personally I'd do a gradual introduction. Have a chat with the YO - they should know the horses there - perhaps there's a quiet horse on the yard who could go in with your horse after the first night. That way he will have a buddy for when he's introduced to the herd.

:D
