Im opening a livery yard in buckinghamshire in july and was wondering if anybody knew where I could purchase hay and shavings in bulk. I have seen an add in horse and hound for cushion bed. Has anyone used this bedding? If so what do you think of it. I would like to use shavings but it is proofing expensive and hard to get hold of. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

We only have straw on my yard as the farmer is then happy to clear my muck trailer every week for free! the straw is superb, totally dust free and as I buy in the huge quadrant bales I am finding that one bale keeps two horses in deep bed for 2 months, each bale costs £45 but they are 4ft high 4ft wide and about 12ft long! One of my dressage horses has a dust allergy but he is fine with this straw for some reason.

Have you contacted your local agricultural store? They will often give good reductions on bulk orders, and will deliver per ton.

We sell ours to the liveries for £18.

We don't offer shavings as they take so long to rot down, flax is fab for this and a great bedding.

Used to be at a yard in Henton, near Chinnor. They got stuff from Gommes at Chinnor Hill and hay from Derek Nixie, farmer at Chinnor Hill.

We have a new livery yard in Wltshire, we have cut our own hay but we use woodypet bedding it is so easy to do, use, doesnt smel, hardly any waste great for all sorts. All our liveries are on it. Its cheaper then shavings and delivered in bulk pm me for more details or i have a contact no and link on my website.
