New Year - Happy forum?

Oops, I've only just caught up with this thread. I think it's a great subject, lec, which has had some great responses
smile.gif
I agree we're all depressed/going slightly mad at this time of year, I know I'm feeling a bit less generous-spirited than usual
tongue.gif
I think a reminder to all of us to try to be positive at all times, even if offering advice, is probably timely. I also concur that, in general, CR is a pretty supportive place with some great people and some great advice on offer - I rarely if ever venture into other parts of HHO as I've seen what can happen, it's a scary world out there
shocked.gif
. I've also made some great CR friends which is something I never expected when I stumbled across HHO
laugh.gif
So Happy New Year and Happy Forum everybody - here's to a successful and harmonious 2010 for all of us

What she said!

The majority of my time on HHO is spent in CR, it's by far the most level-headed and mature of the sub-forums and although I'll skim NL/LN/SB every now and then for anything that catches my eye, I rarely post on them.

now_loves_mares: I'd also been blissfully ignorant of bad feeling on here, we must be in our own little world! I also love reading everyone else's reports and seeing their photos and videos, so hope people continue posting or this place will die a death.
frown.gif

I also agree with the folk who've said that through HHO CR, they've made a network of real life internet weirdy friends!
tongue.gif

Through the CR forum I've met a number of brilliant folk who have been great company at events and helped me out with advice/morale support/finding events & training etc. I'll still be the crazy lady who yaks away to anyone parked next to her at events (you've been warned!
tongue.gif
), but it's nice to have familiar faces to catch up with too.

Roll on the "big thaw" and everyone able to get out and enjoy themselves.
smile.gif

I think its the little things that get blown out of proportion that drive me crazy like Rolkur, hats, etc and the interesting bits of the debate get lost.

I can now bore you all with mediocrity at its finest with my attempts at eventing.

Joking apart though, it's people like you FigJam that cheer the rest of us up with your upbeat and enthusiastic posts: ChloeGHE's another one, guaranteed to brighten our down-in-the-dumps days. Keep it up please, and it might remind the rest of us to stop taking ourselves so seriously.

blush.gif
, thank you. It's nice to hear my ramblings aren't being considered by some as part of CR's downfall!
wink.gif
It's no doubt easier for me as a "1-horse, amateur, newcomer to competing", to take it less seriously than others who have multiple horses and higher ambitions/aims though, so I can understand the frustration for some.

I'm just happy to finally have a (touch wood!) sound horse that I can get out and have fun on after having never had a horse, then having an injured one!
smirk.gif
Hopefully this thread will encourage people to be a little more considerate of the tone of posts made and in turn, will encourage more people to post up. It really is a great place to get information and support.
smile.gif

PS- also nice to hear I'm not alone in the "befriending" of trailer/lorry park neighbours!
laugh.gif

i chat randomly as well FigJam...its because i go competing on my own and i talk a lot when i'm nervous so i always end up talking non stop...very annoying for my victims i suspect

Jumps on bandwagon for all those things! 1) that FigJam is actually crazy (in RL too!)
tongue.gif
; 2) that lots of the posts from aforementioned Chloe, FJ and lots of others have a lovely upbeat tone that make my day (sad I know) and 3) that I'm living life vicariously through anyone who does fun stuff.

Please please can the "amateurs" post too though! I feel so overwhelmed sometimes by the skill, dedication and horsepower some of you have! A dose of reality will keep us all sane I think (and now worries that I've offended all the "amateurs")

(hope the knee is doing better btw!)

I agree though, it's nice to see a real spread of levels of rider/horse reporting on here- to think we have had reports from people on here on everything, from unaff clear rounds to Badminton and Burghley!
smile.gif

No reports from me until the big heat lamp in the sky starts working and the drive clears so Trev the Trailer can leave the yard... not looking hopeful for a long while yet.
frown.gif

I think that is the great thing about horses everyone has started somewhere and if you have jumped in your first ever Sjing class to going round Badminton everyone on the whole is supportive and can offer good advice.

I think you top level riders must get too somber constantly striving to get better and better beating yourselves up about position, paces, and placings you're priorities are simply all wrong! You need to concentrate on...
1) xc colour coordination
2) buying cheap things off eBay
3) collecting knackered racehorses
smile.gif

Now Baydale as far as I can see you are doing well on point 1 (I heartily approve of the colour choice
wink.gif
) but on 2 and 3 I will have to be convinced, once you have completed all 3 phases, and passed the 'icy hill bike initiation ceremony' you will be awarded 'ninja eventer' status and have reached true equilibrium (If you are baffled by this see my last posts!)

*Little Miss Oblivious hears a Whoosh go over her head, and crawls out of her hobbit-hole in the Fens*
err, what have i missed?
i didn't see a post with negative stuff - did i? please god tell me i didn't post on it...
i try to be honest on here because if someone does ask for cc then i think they deserve it. never a slating, but genuinely cc sometimes has to be a bit "that's not quite right imho, if you did ____ it might work better."
maybe i've not always been that tactful, actually!
in a lot of cases it can be a real deja-vu moment - argh, i used to do it like that and it didn't ****ing work either, but i found a better way (found out the hard way, often) and i'd rather someone else didn't have to struggle on... for their sake and their horse's! i sincerely hope that doesn't make me sound disgusting sanctimonious though. also, there's a lot to be said for objectivity... we all need that. apart from my trainers, who i don't see often enough, i don't have an educated pair of eyes on the ground often enough, so people on here can serve that purpose.
but we're not just talking about riders and their egos here, sometimes we're edging on to horse welfare territory... and safety. *gets on Hobby Horse again*
so, i think there is a reason or two for honesty.
i hope people will keep posting, and not be afraid of being jumped on. i can assure everyone that if i was able to do anything at all with my lot at the moment, i'd be posting pics and vids of just how badly it was going! and if i had a vid of being flung off, i'd be putting it up for your style marks...!

Sorry FigJam
tongue.gif
(Knee not healing that fast BTW as dragging it through knee high snow is not actually a recommended cure. Except for maybe the "icing it" part).

Yes and you have replies!

My reason for not posting much is noone bothers to comment, so defeats the object of spending 20 mins on photobucket and writing a long post on how your day went.

It is slightly annoying when i come back the next day and its had 200 views and 1 reply! (where as more 'popular' posters have 18 views and 9 replies within minutes!)

I am the biggest geek when it comes to colour coordination, even my haynets are colour coordinated!

2) I love a bargain and am even finally getting around to selling some also.
3) Mr FigJam would have a hissy fit if I did this... boo!
wink.gif

So as Meatloaf would say, 2 out of 3 aint bad!
tongue.gif
"Ninja eventer in training" maybe?!

i think that will always be the case tho VK- some people are always more 'popular' than others...i like to post reports partly because my OH hates horses and so i cant tell him how my day went but i am normally excited and have to tell someone- even if it is 200 anonymous users who don't comment
smirk.gif

I remember some pretty nasty threads from "way back" mind: does anyone remember the massive argument about magnetic headpieces? Or how many times a horse should run in a particular period?

I don't mind a bit of a discussion so long as things don't get personal. If someone posts a photo where something is clearly going wrong, I do think something should be said - DIPLOMATICALLY and KINDLY - to point it out and offer suggestions.

However, saying "you are a crap rider and your horse is ugly" is another story.

I agree. I posted pics of my new 3 year old. had 3 replies and about 15,000 views (sob) decided he must be hideous.

In reality I am aware that if I bothered to post more myself I would get more responses to my posts and that this forum is now so large that whereas a post may have hung around for days a few years ago it now hangs around for a few hours, so you can miss your 'window of opportunity'..

1) In my quest for colour co-ordination I have spotters, nationwide: I had a phone call from k9h in Yorkshire, very over-excited that she'd found bargain basement coats in Baydale team colours.

2) I am sh1t hot on Ebay, I'll have you know: Pikeur and Cavallo breeches, Ariat chaps and boots, even my Butet saddle. It helps that I'm Yorkshire-bred and very "thrifty".

3) I've done the racehorse thing in the past but Andrew Nicholson used to buy all the ones at Doncaster that I had my eye on.

With my propensity for breaking bones you can keep your Ninja eventer status, although I'm sure Jupiter will do his best to have me practising my forward rolls when he comes back into work.

I think that's definitely the case, unless you go looking for someone's posts or they have a catchy heading or masses of photos, then they do tend to get lost fairly quickly.
frown.gif

There is also a split between those that event and those that don't. Eventers get a lot more response to their posts as there are more people interested in what they write - or they can just write better than the other disciplines?

I was going to say that DD. It's not that I'm not interested in dressage or showjumping reports, more that I know eff all about those disciplines so I'd rather not show myself up by saying something crass.
blush.gif

Well for me I am bitter about the Sjers - winning money and getting DCs!

As for dressage I find them baffling as seems there is so many different area and regionals and I get a bit lost on percentages as well.
