Long story short....couple of years ago I had an accident which damaged my back, dented my confidence etc. I did I whole load of nothing for approx 18 months. Meanwhile my boy went cross country, jump x etc (I couldnt do this)
In September 2009 I took the bull by the horns and moved to a yard and started riding/taking lessons etc. This was done slowly and with the blessing of my GP/Physio etc. I would c**p myself every time I got on though. I have invested in an IJOY riding machine and exercise bike and feel physically fitter then I have done in a long time. Although Im still very scared when I get on and hes such a good boy.

So I am now thinking of where I want to be this time year and how to do it but I need a plan and I need to stick to it. It will be my new years resolution. So my question is how do you plan for next year? Do you list what you want to do? How do you get motivated?

I still lack a lot of confidence.

Any motivatal (sp?) ideas welcome. Thankx - Hope this post makes sense

Start at this time next year. Where do you want to be?

The most important thing is to break it down into achievable, easy chunks. Even if they are really tiny, in fact, the tinier, the better your confidence will be IMO!

I get myself some felt tips, a massive bit of card and loads of pictures off the internet of what I want to achieve, and make a brainstorm of what and more importantly HOW! Stick it up on my bedroom wall and look at it every night :)

If you can break your long term goal down into small parts, it will seem a hell of a lot less daunting. You can even make yourself an affirmation, ie a short sentence telling yourself you are there. So you goal may be to do a dressage test; "I am so proud of myself for riding a dressage test on my boy" Look at it, subconsciously you will come to believe it. You will find it a lot easier to achieve in reality if you have already 'done' it in your head :)

Hope this helps, and it's not too out there for you. My Mum's a Motivational Lifecoach, so I get motivated daily ;)

Good luck! PM me if you'd like and I can get more ideas from the mother :D
