So, for various personal and political reasons my driving career has come to a bit of a pause :( . I'm still teaching a schooling a youngster but the FEI and advanced stuff has come to a halt. Quite a shame as we had a fantastic first season doing our first year of FEI, and I do really love the driving (and am better at it than riding!) but such is life.

However, we set about finding a nice little ridden horse for all round activities or a larger driven pair for dad to use at low level driving events to take a break from the national scene. By some stroke of luck it happened that a very nice little horse was for sale pretty locally, so off we all went to see him. I wasn't totally keen on getting a native for myself but my family are mad keen pony people so it was the ideal solution, the family fell in love with his character and screwed on head and after another viewing where I made my mind up if I could learn to ride him ;) he was coming home :D

He's a 10YO 15HH section D, who has done lots of affiliated workers and general riding club stuff, who basically knows far more than me :) He's very, very different to ride to any of my others or past ponies/horse, or even anything I've come across in BUCS, so that's a massive learning curve for both me to find his buttons, and him to understand what I'm meaning. Fingers crossed with lessons and time we get there as he's got all the potential to do everything I'd want to do at this stage, and more :)

Meet Black Prince! (Black, as we have already had a chestnut prince, and a grey prince....)

I have my first lesson on Thursday and have super itchy fingers with regards to entering things, though I know I must learn to ride one side of him first :p He's easy and genuine, far calmer than the others which is a nice change, but it's quite a different prospect having a horse that stops if you don't ride properly compared to one that is constantly looking to go faster/duck out from under you.

Still not really planned what the aim is, other than to have fun :) He excels at the performance type show classes so I might have to scrub myself up for them, but he's also more than competent enough to do anything I'd want to do (and help me out doing it). Overall I expect we'll have a getting to know each other unaff season this year and then look into which route we want to take after, but it will no doubt involved some jumping! :)
He was absolutely loved by his old owner who sadly had to give him up, so I hope I can do her proud and she's happy with his care here, she got him ex RS when she was 13 and has made a fantastic little horse of him and I'm very grateful.

In other news little Rocky the youngster I'm bringing on had his first party and was supercute:

He has 2 more indoor ODEs before he's being turned away for a break :)

Look forwards to updating you with jumping pictures of Prince very soon :P

He sounds and looks really lovely. I think you're being very sensible in holding off proper competitions until you have the measure of each other and there's nothing wrong with the ambition to 'have fun' if you ask me. Look forward to further updates :)

Yes, Mice are sold :( Theyll hopefully be out next season, they're just being trialled by another pony 4 driver :)

Had first proper jump on Prince, can't wait to get cracking, he's very genuine :)
