New Years day vet bill!!

If you don't want to pay vets bills - don't have animals. Simple!

Or get insurance.

Oh and try calling a plumber out on a Bank Holiday and see how much he will charge before he even looks at anything.

I do think vets have a moral obligation not to overcharge people. No complaints about mine, her Christmas Day callout was very reasonable. But just because we pet lovers have to afford their charges, doesn't mean they should be unscrupulous.

Insurance isn't always affordable and doesn't cover everything anyway. I'm 55years old, I work very hard at my not-well-paid job, this is my last chance to have a horse and I won't be told I can't because of vet's fees.

I'm quite aware others have to work Bank Holidays, I do myself. I worked all night Christmas Eve and up to midday Christmas Day this year. I got my usual £30 for the overnight bit, and an extra 17% on top of my normal pay from 7am.

So, not everyone gets well paid for working Bank Holidays.

Oh, I'll have to play that one next time I get a horrendous Vet bill (except that we don't have a BMW) -

"Well, you paid $1500 for new winter tyres for the Titan" and "the Mustang wasn't exactly cheap" and "Why is there something that looks suspiciously like an XJS under a tarp in the drive shed?"

Thats the odd thing - neither do we !! haha - I think he was just saying not to worry folk choose to waste money in different ways ! :-) I love him

Haha the fish story made me laugh but thats quite nice that she had taken it to the vets to be pts!! x Well the moral is - Dont have a fish either if you cant afford £80 to have it slapped against the vets table to put it out its misery!! x

I think vet bills are horrendous sometimes but how can you price your best friends life! x (fish+mice excluded!! lol)

Well we haven't had a vet bashing post for a while!! :(
In all these cases when people are complaining about the cost to cure and save their beloved pets (even mice and hamsters) do they not stop to appreciate the skill and professionalism of the vets and nurses involved in saving their animals life. Can you imagine how difficult it is to operate on a hamster.

Don’t usually get wound up by posts but this got up my nose. I don’t see a vet bashing thread, just people exchanging experiences as we’re perfectly entitled to do.
For your reassurance my puppy is fully insured thank you, but I wouldn’t dream of claiming for a completely avoidable incident that resulted from my own poor judgement….lesson learned, all cat v dog hide and ambush games are now only permitted downstairs.

:D:D These two made me giggle.

I have a childhood memory of rescuing a hamster from evil children down the road, they'd pulled one of its eyes out. My dad took me and it to the vet, who kindly explained he could operate, it would then have one eye and be ugly and cost a lot, or he could pts and "Your daddy can take you and buy a hamster with two eyes for you".

No, I said, I want this one.

I had that hamster, weepy empty eye socket and all, for several years.....

FionaM12 the story of your rescued hamster is truly heartwarming :)
