I am getting my new youngster this week and i am going to put a field safe HC on him untill he gets used to coming in ! but not having used these before are they safe to lead in ?
Thanks
Thanks
No sure on this as I never turn out in headcollars, but if you were worried about it breaking if he had a spook or something then when you have caught him you could just slip a halter over the top for leading?
Depending on the type, they can swap the clip at the throat over from velcro ( the 'field safe' part) to a proper clip so it can be lead in.
To be honest though I'd want a youngster to have the practise of putting a headcollar on and off daily, so would be using a larger one over the top - I have a lovely young cob who lived in a hedcollar so he could have a sunflap put on his nose (to protect his very pink nose) so never had a headcollar put on and off. It took ages before he got used to it and initially hated having a the headcollar put on.
