Hi everyone, this is my first post after lurking for quite a while! The zip has just broken on my beloved Hunter Hamiltons :( and I was wondering if I can get it repaired. They are otherwise intact and it seems such a waste to chuck them. They are leather boots with a side zip and it looks quite difficult to replace. Anyone ever had any experience of this and does anyone know of a place in or around Herts that would do it for me?

I had zips replaced in short boots, it was £50 for both boots, so really may not be worth your while in long boots, unless they're very well loved and in good condition!!

I think I paid about £30 at the local cobblers to have a zip replaced in my long leather riding boots. Worth doing, they were fine, you couldn't tell at all.
You just need to find an old-fashioned cobblers!!!!

Thanks for the replies, I'll have to try to find a cobblers somewhere and get a quote. My only other option is to buy a new pair of boots but at the mo can only afford a cheapy pair which I know will fall apart in about 5 mins!

How old / worn are the boots? It might be worth contacting the manufacturer about a repair.
Last week I had this issue with a pair of riding boots, contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a pre-paid label to send both boots back (I didn't want someone hacking my boots about!). I called them yesterday and the lady said they are sending me new boots!!! Haven't received them yet though as it was only yesterday they confirmed it :)
They were 14 months old but I had kept them with trees in and in a boot bag, and only ridden in them mind.
Do you want to know who this paragon of equestrian Customer Service is? ARIAT!

Yep Ariat gave me a new pair too - and mine were 18 months old and well used! They may have been expensive when I bought them but that quality of service was worth every penny.

I had mine done at star cobblers on recommendation from a few peeps on here. They are reasonable and quick even though you are posting. I think I paid £40 and I had both zips done as the other was showing signs of going weak.

I think they are about 6 years old and Hunter don't make them anymore sadly so I don't think they'd be able to do anything. I want a pair of Ariat Grasmeres but I need to save up the money first! Heard so many good things about them.

I got one zip replaced and it was £20 at my local cobbler, he tried to fix it first for free, when that didnt work he replaced it. You can tell a little bit at the bottom where the stitching has bowed, but otherwise its perfect!
