any answer will greatly be apresciated

BHS stages would help if you were looking towards a job in horses, im not sure what level you need to be at for them though :)

Hello :)
BHS stages are a good indication to employers that you know what you are doing, I would recomend that you give them a go as you will learn more about horses than just how to ride them.

I would probably also invest in a pair of gloves to go with your boots and hat, after that you can just get as and when required.

Hi Mark,
BHS stage 1 involves some theory stuff which really covers basic things you need to know as a horse owner - parts of horse, feeding, rugging, tack etc. Then you have to ride two different horses at walk, trot and canter ( at least you did when I did it which was a while ago). Think Stage 2 has jumping and so on. There are probably details on the BHS web site.

BHS stages will definatly make you more likely to get a job in horses, If you are hinking about taking them it is a good idea to get some books and stuff so you can start reading up about stuff now. The BHS endorse a manuel which is meant to help with the stages.

If you go on the BHS website the also have all the information about the BHS stages, what you are required to know and do and then you know what depth of knowledge you need.

You may want to invest in a body protector as some places won't let you ride unless you have one most tack shops fit these and countrywide will. Good luck and keep us updated :D

sorry just seen Kokopelli's post about body protector in that case what make/model do people recommend and what is a good price as ive seen them range from 30 to 100's

ill have a look at the website.

would it be advised to get a body protector ?

A lot of places recommend them as you are a lot safer in one especially whilst learning, if you ever want to ride somewhere else they may not let you ride unless you have one. And I would definatly get one if you jump.

If you do want one there are so many different types and shapes and makes it can rather confusing so it might be worth starting another thread asking about them :)

Our posts clashed! So many makes I'd recommend startign another thread and get people's experiences with them. Personally I hat body protectors and find them very restricting so I got a racesafe one which allows you to move.
