Hi everyone,
Im just looking for a bit of advice;
I started horseriding when I was 6 and stopped at 14/15, now 6 years later im a stay at home mummy and would love to get back into it!
Im phoned and starting private lessons and stable lessons too as I want to get my own horse.
Would you suggest riding for a couple years before getting a horse or buying my own horse and having lessons on it.
Ive found a fantastic full livery place just 10mins away that includes exercise and a freelance instructor but im not sure which was to go about it really.
any advice would be great?!?!
Thanks!

Start with some lessons, then I would go for a share - this will give you a good idea of how having a horse impacts your "free" time and un hmmmm..... money!!!

Hi
I would go for at least a year's worth of lessons and ask if you can volunteer at the stables. They will probably be very grateful of the free help, especially if you can do it in the week. Most will be full to bursting with helpers at the weekend, little PClubbers.

You can also get an idea of the type of horse you like. What you want to do with it etc.

Hope you find what you are looking for and don't get too sore the first few lessons.

I took lessons for a few months and then the ideal horse came up, but I only got a horse because I have field and stables at home and my OH has had horses and ridden since he was knee high! Otherwise it would have been entirely stupid for me and very unfair on any equine. It threw me in the deep end, and boy did I learn quick about every possible aspect because my horse was there every day and my OH over my shoulder the whole time. For me it was brilliant experience and after a very short while I had learned so, so much, but I do stress I only could do this because I had very experienced help at home who was willing and happy to be there ever step of the way.

Good luck, hope you get a lot of fun from getting back in the saddle, such a therapeutic thing to have in your life. :)

I started lesson when I was 4 got my first pony at 8 and I had 2 others a JC showjumper and a M&M pony. When I was 11 I sold all my ponies to do other sports.

One day I was at a show watching some friends and it made me want to ride again. The week after I started riding lessons again (the show was in July) and by September I had another horse! Although stabling and things weren't an issue as when I quit at 11 my mum never sold my Shetland or my first pony and so even though I had quite competing I still occasionally rode my 12.1hh!!

As Long as you feel committed then there is no need to have lessons for a year!

People who have never ridden before can start lessons and within a year be jumping you name it !
For you who had ridden a very long time before hand you will never forget the basics and within a month or two you will be flying

Good luck
