Ha ha, Hi I've been reading this forum for a while but have found myself in need of some advice and so have joined and posted.......

Here's the problem(S!) -

I bought a pony and got passport with him. When it has come to changing ownership there are a couple of things (registered with weatherbys) -

He is down as entire on passport but has definitely been gelded, I have no idea by who or when though, the owners I got him from said he was gelded before they got him and they never changed his passport into their name either. The pony is a gelding but I have no proof (except lack of the obvious lol), he has also changed colour since the passport was done. He is down as skewbald and has markings on the ID form, but some of the markings have greyed out completely. I also want him microchipped and to change his name (show name not stable) and it would seem that the easiest thing to do would be to apply for a new passport for him but have read horses must only have one passport. Anyone had experience with this or have any advice please?

Also, I have a horse on permanent loan and the owner has given him to me now. He was registered with the sports horse GB society and has a record of equine vaccination and identification document and what appears to be a sports horse GB passport and I also have the change of ownership form for him, signed by the previous owner for him. However I am not registered with them and as he is a pleasure horse, I don't really want to be either. I want him microchipped too and registered in my name but I don't want to pay a fortune for registration just for change of ownership. Again the easiest thing would be to have him a new passport, but can I do that?

Many thanks if anyone has advice :)

Hiya! Welcome!

Firstly - I cannot answer all your questions! However if he is registered with Weatherbys and has a Weatherbys passport then he will have been micrchipped and this will be in the passport. You cannot change the name of a Weatherbys passported horse (unfortunately). With regard to his colour - you will probably find that his skin pigmentation will mean that he will always be the colour he is stated as. I would speak to Weatherbys with regard to entire/gelding issue.

No you can not apply for another passport.
Each horse has a life number on their passport.
Get the passports changed to your details.
You can get them micro chipped and add the details on.
They may or may not want proof of first horse being gelded which if they do just get a vet to look and write a letter!

with regard to your second horse, the loan horse given to you, it doesn't matter that he is registered with a sport horse agency but is a pleasure ride horse. i know of 2 horses who have passports from a donkey society! just send in the change of ownership form with the appropriate fee.

Check for the micro chip, sort out if it is the right passport or he is the right horse. My horses are not posh so two have passports that do not have micro chip numbers as it was pre mirco chip days, remember that!

When we bought my daughter's pony, some friends had a 19 year old pony they were looking for a home for as he was outgrown, and we thought he'd be the ideal complimentary as a companion. He actually has quite smart breeding, his Dad was a sire of many famous HOYS winning show ponies. He came with a generic passport from one of the issuers, and a whole sheaf of detail about his breeding from the National Pony Society in a booklet. When I was sending off for the renewal of passport, I found I had to send a (?£20 fee) to change the detail on the passport.

I also wanted to change the detail on the owner section of the booklet, so it was all up to date. I rang NPS and the lady there said I could request an NPS passport and they could cancel the other one. I had to send them the passport and I think it was £25 and they would write to the passport issuers to cancel the original passport and condense the breeding papers into a new blue NPS passport (which I far prefer as not only is it very smart but it has a plastic wipe clean cover so handy in the rain!). I sent all this off with the microchip details as soon as the vet had been and chipped them - the vet wrote the info in the passports and signed it. I didn't have to pay any extra for this nor did I have to join NPS (or the NF society for the other pony's detail to be changed). However the new NPS passport no longer has details of the previous 2 owners (but does list the breeder who was first owner)

I would suggest contact the breed society and find out the costs and if they can add the fact he is gelded and microchipped at the same time as change of ownership, and if they can change his show name. I expect you can get a letter from a vet to confirm he is gelded (copy of vetting certificate when you got him perhaps would suffice?) .

Hi thanks for all your answers, charmeroo he is/was a lemon and white and some of the markings he has on the passport have gone - I know he is the same pony as I have been on the same yard for the last 3 years but with each change of coat some of the markings have got lighter and lighter until they are indistinguishable from the white in his coat. He currently looks white grey with a palomino head! But some of the body marks are gone.......
If he is microchipped then it's not recorded on his passport, so may have to get the vet to check????
