Lovely Northamptonshire again!

Just had my jump saddle reflocked for new mare (the one with the lump that comes up occasionally from the 'amazing' saddle, so i'm a bit paranoid about her back, to say the least).
it's not really symmetrical at the front - as you can see from the pic. it's soft-flocked with white wool, and serge, so not firm at all, obv. hasn't been sat in yet, so will obv flatten out and firm up with a bit of use, and weight on it!
would you:
take it back to be evened up (at no charge), just in case, or
try riding in it and see if it sits level and stays in the middle (taking it back if not, obv), and not be so paranoid!
thankyou!
drat, can't get piccie to work, will try again in a sec.

I would ride in it, it could be that there is the same amount of wool in each side, just one side more fluffed up. See what it is like under the pressure of you sitting on it, ride a few times, then get it sorted when you know what happens as it is compressed.

Can't see the photo.

However, having a horse who is also prone to a little back issue - then the saddle would go straight back for correction.

I wouldn't be happy about putting it on a horse full stop really if it wasn't symetrical.

Well, I think, I'd try riding in it but not for long sessions, and see how she goes. She may love it! Also, no horse is symmetrical are they.

Phone and check whether you could take it back in a few days perhaps?

I would sit it on your mare and ride in it in walk only for about 20 mins - then have a look. If once you have sat in it for the 20 mins it is not level then take it back to Barry to get it rebalanced.

Uh what a pain in the backside for you (hope not literally!) but that's not good enough or worth paying for, shame.

I guess you asked, did he mean it to be like that?

Maybe with a little riding on it will still be straight and comfy though, as bosworth says.

no, the template was symmetrical, it went back to have the front-back balance altered slightly and the headplate brought in a bit. it was done for free anyway because it wasn't exactly how i wanted it last time, they've been great about it. it's the first time i've sent one by post though, and the last time too, i think.

It's going to alter slightly once you've ridden in it anyway, so personally I would ride in it for a week and then see what it looks like and send back for adjustment as required
