Hi Guys,

(Also in Veterinary)

Just want to find out as mush as possible before going out and buying this supplement. I used to use it on my mare that had DJD in her fetlock joints but that was about 3 years ago now.

So my questions are:

Do you use it, if so do you rate it?
What makes it better than other supplements?
What ingredients make it stand above other supplements?
Where do you buy yours from and price (I used to get mine from Furry Pharmacy) found them the cheapest)?
How much do you use per day and how long would 500g last?

I am thinking of getting it for my guy that toe drags (currently under investigation from vets). Hes now been given the okay to return to full work from a bout of poor condition and I have to build him up slowly to hopefully build the muscle in his hindquarters and then in turn the idea is this muscle will support him and help him 'lift' from behind. However, if little or no improvement shows once he is back in full work we are going to put him on a course of bute for a few weeks trial. If there is improvement then it will be joint related.

So, got me thinking maybe while I am returning him to work a joint supplement may or may not help. If it does great, if not well I tried before we result to bute. So yes experience with this supplement would be great!

It is just 99% purity glucosamine hydrochloride.

You can buy 1.5kg of identical glucosamine of same format and purity for £40 delivered e.g. From Aviform website.

NSJ is horribly over priced for what it is.

No difference as I said in my earlier post. Think is listed as glucosamine hydrochloride 99% purity.

Have you found it?

Yeah found it, just wanted to check as seems like a good alternative so I will probably get this instead thanks.

Have you used it yourself?

Yes. Vet hospital said to feed glucosamine so I chose this one. Have seen their independent purity certificate. Friend fed NJS and have compared ingredients.

I tried to find a list of ingredients for Newmarket joint supplement for comparison with all the usual suspects and couldn't find one, went with it as it was suggested by vet, well either that cosequin or synequin - which are horribly expensive.

Interesting thread. I am using NJS after recommendations from my vet. I will be swapping to the Aviform one when I've finished my current tub. Thanks :) this will save me lots of ££££'s

Yes I used to use NJS for my mare and if the Aviform one works the same as NJS I will be saving too. The 1.5kg Aviform Glucosamine Hydrochloride will last me 5 months at £39.95. I ordered it Wednesday and it's here today, even though I requested free delivery which is 4-5 working days, so I am already pleased with my purchase!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread - started horse on Newmarket Joint Supplement recently and just shopping around for my next tub and came across this thread.

Does anybody still use the Aviform option & can confirm it is still the same product as NJS? They're approx 38p per day vs. 22p per day so if I can switch to Aviform that would help!

The vet we use is a specialist in 'Lack of Performance' in competition horses. We had issues with one of our horses so he examined, had horse trotted up etc & decided he had a problem in his canon joint. He medicated the joint & since then our horse has been a different horse. He moves beautifully, jumps superb etc. Depending on which medication the vet uses depends on how often we need it doing again. It's normally either 9 months or so for one & 12-15 months for the other. I asked him about joint supplement as he had it displayed in the foyer. He told me he sells it because people want it, but it is far better to medicate the joints.
(For those who are not aware of medicating joints the joint fluid sometimes goes very watery & has little or no viscosity the medication gives the fluid the badly needed viscosity).

It's not the same. Njs is pure glucosamine, aviform is a blend of components that are believed to be helpful with joints of which glucosamine is one.

At the time, in 2013, Aviform also sold a 99% purity glucosamine supplement, as well as a number of joint supplement blends. I don't know if they still sell pure glucosamine, it wasn't easy to find it on their website, but they did have a section where there sold all the raw ingredients separately.

NJS is pure glucosamine. There a number of other sources of pure glucosamine that are a fraction of the price. No idea if Aviform is still one. NJS is very over priced for what it is.

What are you medicating the joints with to improve joint fluid? I thought most standard joint injections were antinflammatory in the form of steroid injections, but do little to improve mechanical working of joint.

They used to also inject Hyluronic Acid with steroids to supposedly improve joint fluid, but think this isn't as common now.
