Hiya, could anyone give me some more info on Newmarket Joint Supplement please. I currently have my horse on Naf five star superflex for arthritus in his hocks which does seem to work but i wondered if the newmarket supplement would be better? Thanks

My horse is on New Market Joint Supplement. I had him on Cortaflex before and it didnt make a bit of difference. Hes got arthirtis in his coffin joint and hes only 6. He was lame for ages but since going onto the New Market JS and getting IRAP treatment hes went sound so fingers crossed. The Vet at the large animal hospial said it was one of the best supplements you could buy. I read about all the other supplement, Cortavet etc and decieded that the New Market JS sounded best and got it for him, its not cheap tho.

My mare is on Newmarket Joint Supplement has been since 16yrs old, she is now coming up 20...has been since diagnosis and treatment of arthritis in her hocks. She had injections, remedial shoeing, and put on NJS 4 years ago (she was ridden then). She had been on MSM before...didnt do anything much for her.
NJS was advised as the best supplement for my horse and I have since had to take her to a well known equine hospital (for something else) and they had tubs and tubs of it there lined up and the vets there endorsed my use of it.
It is the purest form of glucosamine...which is why it was recommended to me.
It is quite expensive...but does last quite a while...and helps my mare out no end...

My horse has just had surgery for arthritis in his hocks and the vet recommended njs. Most people I have discussed this topic with said it s the best on the market.

I use it for Chex, its made a huge difference. This time last year he was on a bute a day to keep him sound, but since being on NJS he's sound

. He's still a little stiff in the mornings, but at 26 thats understandable! I've been thinking about changing to something that will give MSM etc as well as glucosamine, but I'm really reluctant to take him off the NJS.

It ain't cheap but it works coz it has a much higher concentration of the active ingredient than any other commercially available supplement. I got mine from the vet but you might be able to get it on line direct a lot cheaper. Good luck.

Thanks Box_of_Frogs. Just had a look and have found it for £26 for 500g. It'll probably work out about the same as i'm paying just now for five star superflex so i'm really pleased!

Can you tell me were you bought it for £26 .My first lot came from the vet but I have been looking on the internet to buy it as cheap as poss I found a couple of sites but I dont think they were that price..Thanks

Thanks for that Im going to ring vets in the morning and see what they are charging havent had my full invoice yet just the operation invoice £3000 ouch!!!!!!
Ollie went out for the first time today after his month of box rest.He has been excellent had to bribe him a few times with carrots to get him back to his stable after 30 mins morning and night inhand grazing obviously he was a bit fed up and bored .Overall he handled it really well. The first thing he did was have a huge roll then he jumped up bucked about 4 times cantered 5 paces then settled down to graze.I thought he might run away or avoid me incase I tried to take him back in but he came over for a fuss funny they dont hold it against you, so trusting. He is in a restricted field next to my daughters mare and he is allowed a trot round the field but musnt have enough room to go mad.One more month then a check up on the 19th to see if I can start gentle excercise again.
Thanks for asking its nice to keep in touch. How is your boy is he doing well on the supplements .

Ouch!!! Bet the vet has booked his summer holidays!!!!

Im so glad Ollie is doig well, hope his rehabilitation goes to plan. Sam, is fine on the supplements. He b*****d off with me in the woods the other day - so must be feeling good....

Bet you wanted to cry when he went out

It was lovely tonight no standing in the freezing cold fog for 30 mins whilst he grazed and no 3rd stable to muck out.I really enjoyed watching my daughter ride I just havent had time after stables ,grazing and grooming.Didnt even mind the pooh picking session.Cant remember is your horse a bit older with arthritis if so sounds like he is feeling much better.

Yes, Sam is 16 and did a footballers injury, collateral ligament, meniscus and cruciate to stifle and found bone spavin on his hocks whilst diagnosing him....

It is better than winning the lottery to get them right and sounds like Ollie is making good progress too. xx

Oh my god sounds as bad as mine.
ligament sept 06 cannon bone june 07 tendon sept 07 hock fusion jan 07 just a little riding in between.Im determined to turn this corner .I only did one xc before things went sour and one show and he looked so promising. My ambition is to try xc again then local shows if he gets better.I would love him to improve enough to watch my daughter ride him at pony club he has broken so many times. You have to stay positive hes only 6 he must have had a hard time when he was younger he was a exracer. When I phoned the vet on 2 jan he couldnt believe it ,he said oh no not again its only the second day of the new year!!!!!!!!!!

I had a look at that site last night there is no vat inc so when you check out it comes to about £32 inc postage .www.vetuk.co.uk is still the cheapest I have found so far . £29 plus postage of £2 or £3 will let you know if I find it any cheaper Im on a mission now!!!!!!!
Sounds like you are treating for the same problems as me.My horse had surgery last month on his hock what way have you decided treat your horse.

Thanks Cellie! My horse was diagnosed with arthritis before i got him. He's currently on Naf five star superflex but i will definatley be changing to njs. I'm saving at the moment and i plan on getting his hocks scanned so i can find out exactly what is going on. He also broke the pedal bone in one of his front feet when he was a foal and this foot is drastically smaller than the other. I want this scanned aswell as i think arthritis is setting in there too. I still ride and jump him as he is never lame or in any pain but i never do very much for fear of making his problems worse.

equine combined vitamins and minerals, like those containing MSM, have qualities that work to reduce discomfort in horse. However, other ingredients in equine combined vitamins and minerals can also be an effective tool against discomfort. Since most discomfort is caused by internal pressure inside an infected area, if the equine vitamins and minerals are able to reduce the swelling.
