I haven't read it but have heard from a very reliable source Bicton won't run again.
They are going to remove all the fences and hopefully a new event at Powderham Castle will take Bicton's place.
Apparently the landowner is going to use the land to claim grants instead of the competition revenue, and once all the jumps are removed it will be hard to ever get back on there again.
Powderham Castle is a fantastic backdrop, superb access, parkland going with a view of the estuary immediately behind, I've been to several gigs there and it is a great place for an event. They did hold PC stuff there and I think may even have done one BE event, the basis of a course is there now.
much as I enjoyed Bicton, Powderham is loads nearer to us, and it is a nicer setting (plus the owners are very into horses themselves so that has to help)
Editted to say I have now read this and it's the SJ club that are talking, so I suppose the bit they use may well continue, I hope so as the arena is fantastic.
The BE event definitely won't, I'll even bet money on it! (Pontispool have taken their slot.....)
HH we are talking BSJA not BE. but you are possibly right about BE!!
BSJA are saying basically they are very unsure as to whats happening. They are currently considering how the changes by Clinton Devon Estates (owners of Bicton) will affect them running shows there. Currently they are still 'planning' to run the Easter show at Bicton but they are not 100% and if they do it may be smaller and not with everything in the same places. There is still also the vague possibility the Easter show may move to a different venue or at the worst cancelled.
There is nothing definite at this time and they are going ahead on the belief they will be running at Bicton at Easter. They have also got the Junior Premier in August this year and not July.....
yep and been back in jersey for xmas! Job keeping me very busy as are horses! didn't get in till well past 8 today (having left before 8am this morning) and thats from only riding 1!
