Hi all, bit long so bear with me :)

After a bit of advice as I'm at my wits end.
Every day for the past month the shetland from the neighbours field has been coming underneath the wire fence and into my field. Usually returning mere minutes after I have evicted him.

I have added electric fence to no avail and blocked of entry points with various items but can't put anything permanent as its rented land.

My yo gave them a call a month ago and I myself have done so plus texts.
However I'm starting to get extremely agitated now that they haven't bothered to sort the problem out after a month despite constant texts from

What can I do other than complain until I'm blue in the face?

Thanks in advance

Is it just in the one spot? Do you have sheep mesh or taut wire? If its one spot I'd be inclined to put electric rope across 6-8 strands and hook it up. Keep complaining, go speak to them in person and if all else fails, get permission to put permanent fencing in and send the owner the bill. Or tell them first that's what you intend to do and see if they respond to that.

Sorry on phone so can't quote, it's actually in a variety of places that he comes through. We have barbed wire unfortunately so that is already taped off but added a lower strand and he still barges straight through.
I keep trying to spot them in the field but they are never there. Also they have stopped taking my phone calls now but text me last week to say they were sorting the problem out. Yet still nothing.
My constant (daily) texts seem completely futile.

Tell them as the shetland is always in your field you're going to assume it belongs to you, and you've found a lovely new home for him and his new owners are coming to get him on Monday. You assume as the owners don't care where their pony is that they wouldn't mind ;)

Or if at all possible hide him in your stable and tell them he got into your horses field and was attacked and trampled.

If it were me with the problem, I'd just be an a**hole back with stunts like that :)

I'd invoice and then...
Probably not great advice but i'd be inclined to chuck a small amount of dyed hay/water out (obviously horse safe) and leave them to collected a multi coloured pony. That's been 'stealing food with supplements out for your horses'. If they still fail to fence appropriately.

As I say not great, but I'd be making points if there's been no effort to sort the fence to contain her animal. You shouldn't be worrying about a Shetland and it's intake if you want to feed out in the field or work with your horses without someone else's running round.

Thats an idea.
I have threatened to stable him until they can be bothered to collect him. Nothin. Even today I told them if he was still in my field when I went back this evening I would catch him and call the rspca to collect him (empty threat) Again nothing. Sooooo annoying.

Cc. Only annoying thing with stabling is that you'd have to then feed/bed/water.
Follow through with your threat and get the rspca up every time it is in your field/stable.

Going to be trying all ideas mentioned first thing tomorrow. And if that fails I think i really am going to have to stable him and wait until they come and collect him. And perhaps go completely nuclear until they get it.

put the little blighter back in his field & tether him, or if their house is next to their land deliver to the front door and tie to the door knocker :D

@ pandorasj I already have a stable waiting for the little horror. Can see him being with me for the long haul unfortunately. Next step is definitely following through tomorrow.

Hahahha fantastic. They don't live their. (Luckily enough, for them)
Have had a good look as foot path runs along side their land and not only can he get into my field but onto the main road if he so chooses.

@ Kelly b. returing the wave :) we are in berkswell

Nice! The new place by lavendar hall? I'm behind the church on Westwood Heath rd, only a few miles!

As for the shhiiiitland, I'd lock it in the stable then and notify the RSPCA and/or council. Tie a note to their gate and say the authorities have been notified and you'll see them when they come to collect as it's been trampled in the field, been winding your horses up and causing fights over feed/hay. Let them know they must contact you before collection so you can inform the authorites how long it takes them and that you'll be billing them for the cost of feeding/bedding it down/livery checks!

Wow only a few miles away.
Not really a livery yard, I rent 4 acres on spencer lane with 3 stables attached. Perfect as turnout is key for me.
Tomorrow is d day for mr shetland. Hoping I can catch him as he is rather flighty, if not I'm at a loss.

If you get stuck and need any help in the morning give me a shout, I have shet sized headcollar and working at 11 but am around before then. I only live off Broad Lane, otherwise, Good luck!

If they aren't answering your calls borrow someone elses phone.
Text them from your phone to tell them if he gets in again you will be charging £20 per day/part day livery & follow it up with a call from the borrowed phone. Once that is answered you have a record that they were using the phone & can't claim it was lost/stolen & they didn't get your text.

Thanks everyone.
Found the little horror happily grazing along side my horses this morning without a care in the world. Went to catch him and all hell broke loose. Managed to get a headcollar on him but he freaked out so had to remove it before he clobbered me.
i have spoken to yo and he is allowing me to put up something more permanent at my expense.

So plan of action today is to close of all his extra points and hope Houdini can't get back in.

Thanks again all.

The farm shop on case kane in honiley are really good for stuff like that. They do the fence stakes for 1.15 each incl vat and rails 4.35 i think.

Eagerly looking at replies our neighbours shetlands keep putting heads through wire and ruining it,to eat our sheep lusher grass, they did make a hole big enough for some of them to get out. As we rent this field they are effectively stealing what we pay for,and they do b all about it what is it with shetland owners?

I have been on the other side of the fence to this and I was mortally embarrassed..... My little 'angel' went through a phase of getting onto next door's land. He was getting through two fences, a hedge, and a ditch. I *think* we've sorted it now by putting an extra line of leccy fencing and pulling down some very large branches (ie small tree size) across the ditch.

Good luck....

My neighbours cattle and ponies kept breaking in to my fields. I just rang the appropriate person each time to retrieve them and it soon stopped. :)

Just wondering who you rang? I'm just about to phone the Rspca to see what they can do about the little darling.
Yo is wanting to take rather more draconian action and find out his address via the land registry and then send them a formal letter followed by legal action if nothing is done. Hoping it won't come to that so phoning rspca myself now.
