We have been practicing our showing today, and I have a question! Surprise surprise!;):D
When you see these real stunning show ponies, they all stand so beautifully with their back legs stretched out. Is there a name for that, and how do you teach it? Is it something that can be taught?

Dont do it!!!!! It looks ghastly, people do it with section Ds and Cs. Bs should stand square! not made to look like an elongated tube.

Ok, I always thought it looked a bit odd, almost dis jointed, but thought it was something looked up upon by the judges! See, told you it was a numpty question!!!

agree with pastie2 on this one, a nice square halt looks better imo, dunno where the 'german shepherd look' came from, but i'm sure its not correct, when i had sec d mare a few years ago and did some in-hand showing i had lots of tips from cob breeders and showing people and was always told to aim for a nice square halt. He's a lovely looking pony btw :)

why thank you! So its not something I am going to do, but, is there a name for it anyway?

Yes, its called............ standing like a bridge, or ............ my handler is an idiot who wants to make me look deformed!! Can you ever imagine how it would feel under saddle. You would think the horse was having a pee!

Do you know, the first time I saw it I really laughed and said, just their luck he wants to wee when the judge is looking at him!!!
We had a good practice today, as the next show is next Sunday, so had OH and Donovan running round the school whilst I was telling them what to do! Good fun!
