Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could offer some advice on what sort of thing I need to be training and practicing at home as the next step up from novice dressage? I compete at unaffiliated Novice but am a bit wary of elementary as I don't know what to expect. Am going to try to get hold of some test sheets to practice some elements at home

Thanks xx

the easier elementaries consist of the same movements as novice i.e. medium trot, medium canter, counter canter. As they move up you will need to show leg yield, a simple change (canter-walk-canter) and the harder ones have walk pirouettes

Hey dont worry about your first elem! i was terrified on my first! you always expect it to be a massive jump up but its not, trust me i actually went from prelim to my first elem and won. you just need to make sure you and your horse are established with simple changes (canter walk canter) and counter canter. start with somthing easy like E41 and just have fun! if you get it wrong on the day then its just practice and you know what you need to get right for next time, i've had my share of mistakes!!

E 41 is now E42.....

Walk to canter.... and simple changes are the only thing thats really different from Novice, but as you move up the elementary's there is some leg yielding too as well as the walk pirouttes etc....

its not that scary honestly!
