Peaches first went lame last April on 2/10 lame and only on a right cirlce, Had box rest for 2 weeks - no change then xrays and nerve block vet said isolated to foot and he said put shoes on ( she was barefoot trimmed) and re balance foot and all should be ok Must also say we had only had her 3 months at this stage so do not have clear history of past. so had feet done and she went sound about xmas time ground soft. All ok until about April again this year and lame again exactly same. so had silicon pads put in he feet. she has had them about 3 weeks now and if anything they have made her worse so wont have them again. Anyway what next. she is in her late teens and she is not insured so can not keep going vet route especially as he has not given any answers yet.

was thinking of tryins some form of alternative to bute but after investigating it is a minefield with so much choice and nothing seems to work for everyone,

Sell me your ideas. She is only lame on a circle so light hacks are not a problem but would like her to be sound

I do know this horse - and know it had no lameness issues while it was used at the riding school, and then when the riding school closed it was used for private lessons with no problems.

She was however shod the whole time i knew here - maybe making her go bare foot soon after you got her wasnt wise on a fairly aged horse (seeing as vet now wants shoes back on)

It really is a shame, and i hope she comes sound again as she is a lovely little horse.

First WHY isnt your horse insured?

We would all do what ever it took to make our horses well but knowing the costs not many of us could afford the huge vets bills.
This is why insurance is so important.

Maybe you should talk straight with the vet explain she isnt insured and you dont have a money tree, what the likelihood of her becoming sound or is she just going to be an unsound light hacker? Or un rideable?

Most insurers will only insure a horse over 15 for accidental injury only, so it isnt any use in cases like this.
