Can you please ask what it costs to pts & dispose of a 30Kg dog?

I'm asking because a dog has just been brought in by one of the breed rescues I kennel for.

He was supposed to be dropped of with the area rep and go out to a waiting home tonight but he was dropped off, owner made a very quick getaway and dog was brought to me instead of his new home having attacked the rep within minutes of owner leaving.
Not the first time they have been lumbered because the owners couldn't or wouldn't make the responsible decision.
I wonder if the cost is a factor?

(We will give the poor dog a few days observation)

Hi

when i had to have my fella put to sleep it cost me £64 and a x amount of penny's he was a pretty large shep husky cross breed i think about the weight you are looking at .

And that was without getting his ashes back, and it was the cheapest quote i had, i think the most expensive was £75. That was the manchester area though.

Maybe there should be something for dogs like WHW have done for horses - a pack explaining what happens when you have to have a dog PTS, the options (like getting the vet out or taking the dog to the surgery), what the disposal options are and what the average costs are. It's not something anyone wants to think about, but at the same time it's part of the deal, unfortunately.:(

Whats wrong with the poor thing why does it need to be PTS? Sorry for asking just want to know why its life has to be ended, not because it bit the rep i hope? It probably did that because it is confused about where its home is right now. Good luck and give it a big hug when the time comes. Did you know that Dog backwards reads God.

It may well be confused, but it still attacked someone. I get confused alot but I dont go round battering people!

Cant help with prices OP, Our old girl took herself off and we buried her.

Attacked; as in flew at the rep, biting, from across the garden. Not a reaction to pain or a warning but out & out aggression. He had to be noosed to get here.

I have him in the kennel which has a remote hatch release to the run and he will take a biscuit through the mesh and then launch himself, teeth first, at the wire which is not normal however confused a dog may be.

No response to words or his name and I suspected he might be deaf but a bell got a response.

No rescue can afford to rehome a known aggressive dog. This rescue group will give benefit of doubt to a dog that has snapped at someone if the circumstances explain why ( eg being poked or trodden on or someone getting between two dogs that were fighting) but this dog is not showing normal behaviour and I for one won't risk giving him a hug unless it is at the vet's.

Well he got his hug...
Over the weekend he had a go at me every time I walked near
He put on weight and was settled in the kennel but flew at anyone who approached.
We did notice his head wasn't symmetrical and wonder if there was some problem there but as he had no home or history we had only one option.

ACP in a tin of Butchers tripe for lunch so we could transport him safely and cue a new vet having kittens when I said to the VN (who I've known for years) "nearest I've seen is rage in a cocker". Said Vet coming from a country where "La rage" is rabies.......

Had he bitten , had he drawn blood? - Rep showed her his finger & arm.
We explained that we didn't have any reason to suspect he'd been sneaked in to this country.

Th ACP had kicked in & he was peaceful.

Such a shame and one of the worst parts of doing or helping breed rescue.
