Next winter can some one give me a big slap if I ....

see that's why I don't leave mine in all winter ;) too lazy! but I do feel your pain and how EVERYTHING stinks after! I keep mine at about 3 inches deep and take the top off it every week or so to keep it that low so less lugging about! our muck heap is too far away and everything has to be chucked up so im not doing that! but yes I completely understand your pain!!

I've done it for the first time this winter. Will be enlisting the assistance of Mr JB to dig it out, can't wait though, it's getting far too deep, they're usually out by now :(

I decided as it was such a nice day, and that he looks right over the door now, then I had better have a go :D

Having abreak to watch the national, then back at it.

Have got themain floor out, so that is drying nicely :)

Although I have just got a wiff of myself, and I also stink :D

When my mare was on box rest for laminitis I had her on deep litter that came up to 1/2 way on stable door.

Sadly she had to be PTS and I had to clear out her whole stable whilst crying from loosing her because YO wanted it emptied ASAP. Not fun :-(

Oh ST that's sad :( What a horrible YO

I had to clear one last year (it was George's as he went into Red's after I lost him) but it wasn't too bad. The ComfyBed really compacts, it's now about 3" deep but he was on box rest for about a month, and is only out 6-8 hours a day at the moment.

Deep littered once hated it ! I have a disgusting pig for a horse and I spend approx an extra 5 mins a day doing a full muck out , just take it to each side of the stable every day means I don't have to bin any when they go out for summer !

only once i ever tried deep littering-omg never again! i have EVA matting with a bucket of shavings swept out and fresh every day .nice and easy::)

I too deep littered this year and cleared stable out last week as my mare is now at boarding school and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be as each week I took top layer off it she was a wet mare too.
I used shavings and bed down excel never again shall I deep litter id rather get matting again and sprinkle bedding over it

I had been deep littering for about 3 months over the worst of the winter, was planning to take it out this weekend. A friend decided to muck out for me in the week as she was off and I was at work..........she took it all out for me, which was a right result :-) she did moan afterward that my mare is stupidly wet......so I did have to fess up that actually I hadn't seen the floor for some time
