The pigs are out and, because there are so many acorns, the pannage season (when pigs allowed on the Forest) has been extended by six weeks until the middle of December.
I think another problem this year was the storm. It bought down huge trees near us and lots of branches. The ponies were feasting on the leaves and acorns in the morning, I chased them off as I left for work, But in the afternoon while out riding I came across one of them dead We have loads of pigs in our area to but there are just to many acorns for them to hover up
Is a huge problem just the sheer volume of acorns, I have shovelled heaps from just one tree because our NF has a real taste for them - and he's fenced off from it too, that's just the ones that have blown his side.
