Not sure if I am being thick? But where does it tell you what the NF requirements are for CCI and CIC events?!

I can't see it online, and the 2013 handbook doesn't tell you either?!!!

My understanding that was just 3* and above. Category d riders can compete up to 2* with the right qualifications so say for 2* now you need a cic** x 2 or a cci* plus cic** and the national qualifications which we are awaiting the specifics. I believe once a horse is qualified it stands for life unless they get E then they go back a level.

Sorry its all a bit confusing but that's what my interpretation is but they is way more experienced folk on here who hopefully will clarify it to you.

Do u need 2 gain 20MERs at each level before you can go 2 the next level?! I am so confused :(

Noooo, that's not right - most people would be drawing a pension before they upgraded and the average age of rider at Badminton would be 75 :D

Ignore that table about rider levels A-D, that is largely irrelevany unless you are a pro riding a string of horses at international level. Concentrate on the bit about "national riders" which is what most of us now are. There is a separate table which gives qualification requirements for national riders for every level, including 3* upwards.

The NF requirements are what BE require rather than the FEI. For 1* level, basically the FEI have delegated responsibility to the NF for defining the aualifications required. For us in Britain the NF is BE, and BE therefore decide the MERs for * level. For a CCI* last year this was either 6 x novice with qualifying score, or 4 x novice plus either an Int or a CIC*. The implications of BEs latest pronouncement on their website appears to be that this remains unchanged for 2013.

One important change from the FEI is that you must now obtain all your FEI qualifications as a combination. It hasn't been made clear yet whether this is the case for the BE requirements for CCI*, as previously you and the horse could gain your QRs separately...

NF requirement for CIC** in 2012 was one intermediate or one CIC* QR. Obviously you had to do a certain number of novice runs before the Int/CIC* - I think it was 5 novice runs for Int and two novices for CIC. I believe that in 2013 you now have to do at least a CIC*/CCI* QR to qualify for CIC**. Ob

For CCI** in 2012 all that was required was one CIC** QR. This year the minimum is as Missp stated: One CIC** QR plus and additional CIC**/CCI* QR

It's still a little bit hazy, I think, because of that bit in the FEI regs which says that NFs ie BE can nominate certain national events to count as FEI qualifiers - it come quite early on in the regs and I can't remember all the details. But on that basis, in theory at least, BE could nominate eg Weston, Withington etc as CNC**s so that a MER in the intermediate there would count for FEI purposes to help qualify for a CCI**. however, I might be wrong about this as it is by no means clear, plus BE haven't said anything yet about their intention to use this ability to nominate events so it may not happen...
