I know several posts have been placed regarding their premium increases, I've just had my renewal quotes :(

I haven't made a claim on either horse for around 3-4 years, but one has increased by £243 & the other by £324 which represent increases of 41% for one & 64% the other :(

Needless to say I have gone elsewhere with another reputable insurer & premiums have been reduced by approx £560.00 p.a. ;)

From chatting to new insurer they seem to think that NFU must want to drop horse insurance because they have taken on so many of their ex clients & they cannot understand why NFU's renewal premiums this year have ben so inflated.

Who have you moved to? I've just had my renewal quote:eek:

KBIS :)

You can get a quote off their website..................There have been glowing reports about them from loads of forum members so I decided to give them a go. :)

Ive been with nfu for years.
Currently i have 3 claims going through and in the past all gone smoothly.

Yes my premiums have increased but i was searching the net last week and companies like petplan were even dearer than nfu.
I didnt even try e and l, wont touch them, may be cheap but there is a reason why!

NFU giving ridiculously high quotes to deter clients from renewing rather than informing they are moving out of horse insurance is very unprofessional. I have other insurance policies with them.....I shall be reviewing those also.

Not really! I dislike NFU very much, moved several of my horses to shearwater

Three of mine insured with NFU, the other two with Pet Plan, I have an ongoing claim with NFU at the moment and renewal is due in November, will def be shopping around :(

It's not just horse insurance either. We moved the horses away from them at renewal this year because of the premium hikes despite no claims but still had our house insurance with them. Supposed to be on a 5 year deal with rises kept to a minimum for that period, and competitively priced at the time. The renewal came through at over 25% higher! We are able to leave as they agree that is an unreasonable increase so not tied in for the period. But if they carry on like this they will very few customers left.

We shopped around at renewal and couldn't find cheaper other than E+L - kept horses with NFU though have moved house insurance and saved 50%

Have dropped PL from NFU as BD member anyway

OH and I were wondering the same as our renewals were mad! Unfortunatly have also moved our two cars and trailer ins from them. They are good to deal with and I trust that they pay out when the s**t hits the fan so I am happy to pay a little more for that - I'm not prepared to pay double though!!

KBIS only cover for £3000 per incident for vets fees, when NFU cover for £5000. Big difference if you have a large claim. I had a vet bill for one incident that came to £7500 last year, so had to find an extra £2500. That was bad enough, but Nemo sadly wouldn't be here if I had had to find £4500.
My renewal with NFU if I choose to do so will go up to £115 per month from £76 for 2 horses and a trailer :(

A bit short sighted as so many like me are moving alot other cover away from them as they have put our horse insurance up so much. If they had explained they wanted to stop insuring horses to me rather than a massive price hike I may well have kept 2 cars, a lorry and house insurance with them!

Hi I've been with NFU for about a year (previous horses were with Petplan but moved to NFU as was told they were pretty good) and they have just settled my claim from the loss of my lovely boy.

I have a new horse coming at the weekend and I'm unsure wether to stick with NFU after reading all these posts about them possibly wanting to drop Equine Insurance? I cant fault their care and attention they have given me through my difficult time though.

So I'm totally unsure what to do!

I've just swapped from NFU to KBIS. NFUs premium was due to increase from £45 to £75 per month for 2 horses and a trailer. KBIS can do it for £40. I've gone for the higher excess and reduced the cover to just vets bills, tack and trailer. No money back for getting another if they die. My household insurance has cover for public liability.

They're a total nightmare!!!
I've moved everything over to SEIB (or companies they do the insurance for, I have 3rd party cover for my 4 through WHW whom SEIB do the insurance for). Couldn't be happier with them.

I'm still with NFU renewed in August just under £100pcm for 3 horses and a trailer. Has gone up since last year but NFU did give a double mutual bonus discount of 20% last year which made the premiums much lower so this year does seem like a hike. Hadn'theard they wanted to stop covering horses will have to see what happens next renewal........

My lorry insurance went up and when i didn't do anything about it they called me to see if I was going to renew then offered me a discount so it was the same as last year.

At the same time I asked about the horse premiums, mine was very high as I had had 3 big and one smaller claims with them. As I had had a claim free year they removed the weighting from the vets fees part which brought it down so it is now about the same as last year.

I did look around a couple of years ago but some (petplan) were alot more and the others weren't massively cheaper, say £50 less for a year so I stayed put.
One thing with some of the other policies was that the tack and equipment cover didn't cover livery yards if you had more than a certain number of saddles in a tack room or it was a shared tack room whereas NFU would as long as security met certain standards.

I shouldn't think the price increases are due to them not wanting to insure horses anymore, the reason being I have my dog insured with them and that increased from £13 per month to £23 per month. They tried to increase my car insurance from £600 to £900, needless to say I didn't renew my car. I hadn't claimed on either.
So they have increased prices on all of there insurances.

Just checked my household insurance and I also have public liability insurance which would cover my horses. However, it only makes about £1 a month difference to my KBIS quote. Will ring NFU and find out what difference it will make to my renewal, leaving it out.
I know NFU are expensive, but they have paid out quickly with no quibbles and I am on my 3rd claim since taking out the policy almost 2 years ago. If it was my car insurance, I would certainly have expected that to go up substantially with 3 claims.
I should point out that these 3 claims are the first I have ever made in over 25 years of horse ownership...

I was with NFU for 7 years with my previous horse, without a claim and have insured house and contents for over 15 years. When I bought my new horse I asked for a quote from NFU and was given one which was £200 more or thereabouts than the one now have with SEIB. I couldn't believe the difference, they couldn't or wouldn't drop it closer to match SEIB, even with the many years of previous insurance. So now I'm with SEIB and had to claim within 14 days of the new policy - it went fine but no doubt the premium will take a hike next year.....

We have all our horses and horsebox with NFU. 3 horses have just come up for renewal and haven't noticed a big increase. Same for the lorry and considering it got wrapped around a fence post and repairs were over £1000 was amazed the premium was more or less the same. I think NFU are one of the best and upto now have always settled claims promptly.

I think at this rate NFU cant have many clients left! I deal with them at work as the work horses are insured with them. The last few years the service has dramaticaly deterioated. And since they have been involed with the company Equine First it has been a disarster. Im really not sue of there justification for the hikes in premiums.
One of my horses is insured with KBIS got her last year she has vet fees up to £5000 and colic surgary £7500 and all claims were 15 or 18 months and wasnt the cheepest but not the most expensive for what you get. do have quit a high excess.
Other horse insursed with EIS have always been good to deal with and not out ragously expensive espcially given the amount of claims she has had!!!!!!

I've cancelled my equine insurance 6 months ago and save the money instead. I have got a fund too that I can use if its mega money. My experience when claiming with Pet Plan was nothing but aggro and months of phone calls and paperwork.....

don't understand it....

My NFU insurance only went up £70 a year..... KBIS were only £10 cheaper and wanted her vetted (her value is only £3500) and SEIB and Petplan were LOADS more!

They obv wanted to keep my business! :)

well I hope that will be the same for me when I have to renew mine in November ( 2 horses and 1 trailer). Currently have a claim going through which is my first in over 20years so hope that all goes smoothly..

CeeBee I'm afraid you are wrong.......KBIS insure for £5000 per incident, I have ther policy in front of me!

I'd had my car/trailer and before that 2 lorries insured with them.... been a customer for about 15 years, and a model customer at that! (No claims ever and always paid on time)... so when my car/trailer insurance almost doubled this year, I walked.

Maybe they thought it was inevitable that I'd have a claim soon and therefore they were hedging their bets!!
