As in title really.

I do currently have a claim outstanding with them and the service just doesnt seem to be up to their usual standard, wondered if anyone else was having the same trouble?

Yep, have found them to be excellent in the past, but current bills to vets aren't being paid despite prev ones as part of this claim being paid v promptly.

hi glosgirl - ive been with them 8yrs and never had a problem with them paying up but this is 7wks after they have recieved all the paperwork from the vets and still they tell me its not been looked at grr

What has happened to them?

Yes have on going claim at the moment which has been passed to a company called "First Equine". They are very slow although I've found that ringing and pestering them every day has made a difference. When I spoke to the NFU about this they said that due to the number of claims they are having to sub-contract work out. Defo not their usual prompt service though.

Good luck with your claim!

I work for a Equine vet and we have a few outstanding claims with them. I was told not to phone till it has been 8weeks. They are normally a very good company and we reccommend them as a top insurance company.

Similar timescale to me. This is only my second year with them, but the first part of this claim went through really easily and quickly, but for some reason the last lot of bills are still needing paying - although my vets know the situation they still keep sending me reminder bills. Not sure what to do tbh, I just need nfu to get on with it and pay the vets, but I wish the vets would stop chasing me too as nfu just aren't hurrying up. I totally understand the vets need paying, but I don't know what else to do to hurry nfu up!!

tigger - i got told one day that "first equine" have my claim then the next they dont and this have carried on for 2 weeks now.

The whole thing is getting me down, my beautiful mare was PTS back on the 16th sept I just want some closure :(

Oh, that is crap, I am sorry. In such circumstances I would hope they would pull their finger out. Can you call your local office and explain the situation, perhaps they can call on your behalf and move things along?

In the summer my dog had to have hospitalisation and major surgery.

The only 2 companies the large referral hosp wouldn't deal with direct si you had to pay up front were NFU and E&L.

Rather worrying that they are being seen by vets as being similar to E&L.

Not sure as my policy isnt taken out with the local office, to top it all they do not let you cancel the policy until claims are settled so I'm still paying out insurance

We are having the same problem! We have been with NFU for many years and have 5 horses insured with them. Previously they have been very good and have responded very quickly.

However we have an on-going claim with them at the moment. Due to slow response resulting in us having to pay the vets ourselves (which we can't really afford to do) we rang NFU yesterday. They informed us that the claim was being dealt with by First Equine and that it was up to us to ring them and find out what was going on!!!! We pointed out that as we are paying NFU surely it is their job to do all the chasing up?!

It is getting to the point where we are considering moving to a different insurance company.

Hmm, interesting, I've been with the NFU for over 10 years and have always found them fast and efficient... until now. My latest paperwork has been with them since September... It's a bit scarey they're being put into the same class as E&L. Perhaps it's time for a change.

Which insurance companies do folk recommend?

I have gone with SEIB, recommend from a few friends and their offices are localish to me so decided in a situations like this i could hand deliever paperwork to ensure its recieved, however from the good reports of them I'm hoping this would never be needed :)

ETA - however my 2 youngsters are under Petplan, no probs but never had to make a claim

my vet and friends vet have been complaining about them for well over a year at being so slow

Also 3 yrs ago my vet advised against them as they are being too hard on exclusions. I know he was right because they wanted to exclude both stifles on a horse that is current insurer (SEIB), who had pain claim, only excluded the bad one

I have always been with SEIB and will stay with them. Over the years they have paid out efficiently and fully for several large claims for me

This last month my renewal came in and I thought it was a bit steep at £600 so thought I would look at other quotes to compare and get htem to reduce it. However I was shocked to see if was already at least £150 cheaper than NFU and petplan

I avoid petplan as have heard several bad things including that if you have tests done that prove negative, like a scan they won't pay. They only pay for positive diagnosis. Also I believe they only pay for half the costs of an MRI scan SEIB pay for all of it

Sammiea, this happened to us and we continued to pay a monthly premium when Treacle was put down until the case was finally closed. They then refunded us without us asking.

The experiences I have had with NFU - insurance for 9 years and in the last 3 years maxing out two 5 grand claims - have been exemplary. It is sad to hear their standard has seemingly dropped :(

I hope they sort it all out soon!

I rang up yesterday, because my vet is now chasing me! NFU told me yesterday that they have an eight week backlog :(

Not sure that my vet is going to be very happy about this, as the insurance was suposed to be being paid directly to the vets via NFU. I'm worried that the vets will make me pay instead, which is not ideal, as it's several thousand :(

I have an outstanding claim also....but NFU have also recently changed there claiming system as well, which is contributing to the slowness of claims being dealt with. my vets iis also a large referral hospital and they have no problem with NFU, and have had no problems with them. the only slow claim i had was ue to the vets themselves not filling in their part of the claim form, which is now all done by e mail apparantly.

Yes I have been having problems too, slow to pay and for some reason wouldn't pay full amount, completely valid claim and no reason given

Im with KBIS. They paid my claim within 12hrs of receiving paperwork. They also cover up to 7k now for colic surgery as standard and £500 for complementary therapy like remedial shoeing which is good. Their premiums are also very reasonable and I saved £150 moving my horse insurance from pet plan to Kbis.
I'm a big fan of Kbis, they were so nice on the phone too when my horse was pts. I have heard they are quite strict on exclusions though but as my current horse has no exclusions (touch wood!) and neither did my old horse then it was fine :)

Thats exactly the dilema I'm in now.. got RVC chasing me for several thousand pounds EEEEKKK

yep at work have one going thought atthe mo and just had one paid form June!
Bad news where Equine first is concerend and i have nothing good to say about them. having delt with them when they took on all the equestrian direct claims theya re very slow/ rude at times on the phone seem to have lots of 'lost' paper work and lots of 'meetings' because when ever you try to talk to someone senior they are always away or in a meeting and NEVER phone you back. After 18 months of constant phone calls emails and letters one rejected claim and another 3/4 paid (still waiting for the last payment which goes back almost a year of just over £600).
I really stuggle to understand why NFU picked such a **** company to represent them when they have a good reputaion to uphold with my new horse i most certinaly will not look at NFU to isnsure it.

I have 4 horses my Land Rover and my dog insured with them and have never had a problem, in fact I have an ongoing claim with my dog. They have paid for everything so far which includes X rays, blood tests every 6 months and MRI and ongoing rehab (He goes to a center once a week), they even pay my travel to and from the center. They continue to pay for his drugs he is on.

I have no problems with the NFU

I have an ongoing claim with them at the moment and it has been sent to 1st Equine. My vets have received nothing yet and it has been 2 months from the start.

I have four horses insured with them and the renewal has just come through, I have been with NFU for 10+ years with no previous problems, think I may be changing my insurers :(

It is not just NFU though, a friend of mine was insured with KBIS and had two claims last year, both were dealt with by 1sy Equine, both were paid very very very slowly, and I am talking months, she has changed her insurers now :(

Yes I too have a claim going with nfu at the moment.

My vet had to chase them up at the beginning of the week and they have requested my vet to give them more information about my horses issue. They want clarification on something my vet has said in a previous letter. At present we dont even know if they are going to cover us as they are dragging there toes about the whole issue. This has been outstanding for around 10 weeks and they havent said they will cover my bone scan or not. So my horse is currently standing in a field doing nothing and costing me a fortune. I dont know how much more I can take from them to be honest.

Hope you get your claim dealt with soon. x

I had never made a claim before I had trouble with marco last year, but it has been a nightmare and taking a very long time, but i couldn't compare as i haven't claimed before.

they also passed the claim onto first equine. i am currently waiting for them to pay off a vets bill from a couple of months ago.
