NFU Insurance - anyone got a claim going on ATM?

Yep NFU are being very very slow!

Very sad to see that vets now rate them with E&L! Now that is shocking!

Got passed to 1st equine when I went nuts in my local nfu office handing them the print out of the HHO forum thread a couple of months ago.

You can get your claim sent back to NFU if you demand it. Has taken weeks though!

Have just sent a massive letter stating that I pay a higher premium for the service and that I will be charging them for my time (am self employed) funnily enough cheque arrived 48 hours after sending letter!

Strange that!

I was just about to take out rider only insurance with NFU should i still??
Heard too many horror stories about other companies and liked the act that they have local offices, hopefully it isn't an ongoing thing and they return to past service.

In the last 18 months I've had 5 claims (serious bad luck!)

everytime they've taken about 2 months to pay out. It's not a short term thing AT ALL! To begin they said it was a temp staff shortage. Well 18 months later they haven't sorted it out.

My advise is to pester pester pester. Get them to tell you WHEN it will be looked at, and then call day after and make sure it has!

Saying that, they have paid out everytime, been nothing but lovely and even called me personally to tell me a claim would be paid out after I'd fussed a lot.

They're a good company who I always recommend. They pay out and are always helpful.... there;s just a delay on them looking at claims.

I have a claim going on, ive had to pay my bill out of my pocket and am awaiting the money to come back from NFU, i spoke today and they said its a 9 week backlog, im having to deal with first equine who are utterly useless. They blatantly lie when you call them and never do what they say, its so frustrating. I have complained on several occasions and its got me no where!!

I'm having the same problems as well, have got two claims on the go, one was sent to first equine who have been totally useless, other NFU are handling themselves they haven't been much better either to be honest, I
I've been with them for at least 4 years and have never had this problem before, its quite embarrassing having to explain to the vet why they haven't received their money, its been going on now for at least 5 months :-/
I think i will be on the phone to them tomorrow yet again!!!

I found that recording phone calls, telling them you are doing it seems to get them going a bit. I took names every time I phoned, wrote it all down, times etc. The vets thought it was me not paying, or forwarding the bills, they realised that it wasn't when I played some of the recordings. They used to be brillient, shame as they now are getting a name for not paying on time. I incurred interest on my bill that I had to pay.

Well i have a WHOPPER of a claim going through (and still ongoing)
They were dealing with my vets directly - or so i thought until my vets called to say thay hadnt received payment - cue panic at a 2k + vet bill,

HOWEVER - i called them and was told they were inundated with claims and apologised profusely.
3 days later my vets called to say they had received payment.

I would advise anyone having a problem to call - and be polite!
The poor woman sounded harrassed as anything when i called!

Having just lost my beautiful mare i do hope the insuraance isnt going to make it a prolonged painful experience xxx Im with NFU lost my mare last friday x

Mine is at least 3500 of emergency treatment plus 3000 mortility and 160 disposal :(

I have been with them for years and when I had a claim 6 years ago they were brilliant.
All the bad press at the moment has got me wondering, but having tried to get quotes from another company that has been recommended as being good they wont insure because hes more than 12 ! Just have to hope I dont need them

We are at tthe static stage of ou Claim for Keisha, they saying lost orig claim form so arranged another by recorded, Always use recorded, found the call handlers to be numpties !!! But the claims handlers WHEN you can get to talk to one are very good.

Finger x for an eventful claim as i have found a new freind i would like and have insured him with them too, did help when said well if thye dont get sorted i will change my horse, cat, cart, tack, trailer and home insurance they couldnt do more for me, think the key is to call most days and ensure you CHECK they have received what they need and that they dont need anything else, keep the toe up the backside to keep it moving !

I'm with Amtrust and highly recommend them. I've had 3 whopping claims in the last 3 years (most recent is ongoing and they have just paid out £1800). They are reasonably priced, quick to pay and all their call handlers are proper horsey folk.

(No I don't work for them, just very impressed with them!)

I've got a claim with NFU at the moment and they have been very prompt. I got the cheque for the first vets bill which i'd paid myself within a couple of weeks. I've just sent the second bill in so I will await with interest how long it takes. I've been with NFU for over ten years and always found them excellent in paying out promptly.

I am helping one of my liveries sort out her claims. She has one outstanding for £6k since July and another for £3500 since September She has paid her excess to the vets and the claim should have been settled directly with the Vets - nothing has been heard from them. They are absolutely hopeless now and this is not a short term problem. They have been blatently lying to the customers for at least the past 3 years as that was the last time I had to deal with them and then I was being told that claim forms hadn;t been recieved - yet we always send recorded. I got annoyed and the following day - they had received it - odd when it had been sent the previous month. Yet again we are being told that nothing has been received. when you phone them they promise to call you back as they haven't got the claim to hand and they never do.
I am sick to death of their incompetance. What was a great company is swiftly becoming as useless as E&L

yes i have a mahoosive claim going and im not impressed, i have a local office to me about 15 min drive so i will be popping in. I am just about to insure my mare with amtrust rather than nfu.
My claim started in june with my practice, that is upto a £1000 currently and they have paid £400 so far, they have paid me for remedial shoeing, this has taken about six weeks. I sent an invoice for his referal which was £2000 and 6 weeks later still nothing and was threatened to be taken to court for the money, rang nfu and told them this and they said it had been recieved and was still awaiting attention! 2 weeks on still nothing, rang them again and they said "oh we cant continue untill we get a report from the vet to confirm its related to the conditions the claim was opened for!" so why didnt i get a letter or phonecall for this?? so horspital charged me interest which i have also sent them the invoive for which they will be paying because as far as im concerned i have been charged interest and threatened with court because of there lack of communication. i have been with them 4 years and will not be re newing with them, if amtrust are good with my mare i will go to them.

I have recently claimed LOU on Dizzy. People in the office have been lovely, but so far their vet has yet to contact me.

My situation isn't as bad as the people who need the money paying up; I just need closure on the situation, it feels like I can't think about the future with Dizz other than it won't involve jumping and as I bought her to jump and as I so want to BS, what the heck am I going to do. Can't have another horse (four is enough!).

Sammiea, so sorry to hear of your loss. It's horrible in all sorts of ways, especially when trying to get the last bits finalized. I was with E&L when I lost Tiggy. It was the end of October; I think they paid out at the end of the following March, after so many phone calls and far too many tears.

Well, well, just this morning got a cheque from NFU for a claim I put in in July! It wasn't a huge amount and I'd already paid the vet but five months is not acceptable. I've been with the NFU for 10 years and they've been great for previous rather more substantial claims but it might be time to move on when my insurance is up for renewal.

Had my lovely mare pts on 10 Sept. Got a letter on Friday from Equine First to say that they had recommended that NFU settle full amount

I've had a huge ongoing claim, NFU have been amazingly helpful and paid for all treatment promptly and without issue. I had another claim for the same horse last year again they were helpful and paid out quickly.

I might be claiming for new horse too :( rang yesterday, they rang me back within an hour and my vet received the claim form via email an hour after that

I had put a claim in on 3 August and only last week did I receive the cheque - 4 months later!!! I got so fed up that I started calling everyday, not sure if that speeded everthing up and a lady on our yard has an outstading claim with an even longer time period I believe with very little movement on it, and had the same response that it had been shopped out to this other firm.

Has made me query renewing it has to be said which is a shame however locally they seem to be losing their reputation very quickly!!!

This thread has been going a few weeks, and I replied a few weeks ago, saying how I'd been waiting since I put my claim in at the beginning of September . . . . . Well it's now beginning of December and I AM STILL WAITING!

My vet is chasing me and it's starting to become a bit of a worry to be honest.

Would it be worthwhile posting this directly to NFU to their press department? and outlining the apalling coverage they are getting?

I have both horses and my trailer covered with NFU but this thread is making me reconsider and I think I need to seriously look at an alternative..

Yeah i have and it's been going through since September been with them 8 years and this is first claim ever and this is how they deal with people, i'v got the vets breathing down my neck but nothing i can do as i cant pay what i haven't got. Alot of people have changed to KBIS and something Essex they are very quick payers at mo so are going to go with them i think .

Just this thread alone highlights how many people are actually claiming at the moment, this is probably only the tip of the iceburg. I have 3 claims in at the moment 2 have been paid out, the 3rd is with equine first and i've heard nothing. What i'm trying to say is they seem to be inundated with claims at the moment with maybe not the resources to set on more staff. I know to some it is unexceptable to wait months for monies owed, but they have and still are paying out for claims which I for one are grateful for however late.
