I changed - had two horses on NFU policy; one is now retired so moved him to Petplans 'in the field policy', which save over £40 per month and the other to KBIS which save £20 pcm
Mine went up from £80 per month to £110 per month; no claims in last 5 years.

I moved to Kbis as NFU attempted to put my premium up by 52% with no change in my policy or a claim, tried to speak to local branch and various other central NFU numbers they gave me but no-one would offer an explanation or consider a reduction. Someone else on here has explained to me the reasons why in insurance speak. Kbis offered more or less the same cover for less.

My premium with NFU doubled despite not having claimed in the last 2 years, so I went to KBIS got really good cover for less than last years policy with NFU :) No exclusions and no vetting required :)

I got my renewal through from them last month and they wanted to add £20 to my premium so I phoned them and got a pretty standard it seems for them at the moment response giving me the distinct impression they weren't bothered about keeping me or to be honest any equine clients.

I shopped about and am now with KBIS which has halved my premium for the same (in some areas better) cover.

I got a quote for my yearling and when I told them I could get it cheaper the woman became really defensive and quite rude. I went with KBIS which was £150 cheaper for the same cover.

I have just had a renewal through for my other horse and its gone up £200! and thats with a discount for being with them 10 years! This week I will be shopping around for quotes.

They are losing a lot of customers by the sounds.

I have posted about this before... I left!!! simple.. they increased by insurance by £200 despite 6 years no claims.

I think its disgusting how they treated their customers this year and didn't make any effort to make me stay. I reduced my horses value and took off all tack and they managed to reduce my yearly total by.... £4!!!! not good

Mine was only an extra £48 over the year so I sucked it up and paid it!

I like the NFU. Where insurers will exclude the whole leg (lets say) after a stifle injury, the NFU will only exclude that perticular injury. The over night vet stays/livery costs and transport are very good too. Not sure how they hold up with other insurers though.

A girl on my yard has claimed for spavin, a stifle injury and ligament damage, all in the same leg, with the NFU.

If its any conciliation its not just equine customers who have had their premiums increased a lot by the NFU.

Speaking with other farmers and we've all seen the premiums rise substantially. As with most businesses they seem to offer preferential rates to new customers and rely on the loyalty and goodwill of existing.

That said they certainly give the best service, so perhaps you get what you pay for.

Ive just got my renewal quote through
Its gone up ALOT, £35 a month to £55 a month :O

I have claimed just over £4000 off them this year, but that was such a farce!!!!

I rang them up and asked about getting it cheaper (changing some details), they "cant"
So I will be ringing round other insurers, see if I can get a better deal elsewhere

Hi there newbie to forum.

I had a letter informing me that my premium was going up to £2200 a year for my 4, I have 3 youngsters of various ages starting at 11 weeks to 2 years and one old lady that I cannot ride. (Havent anything to ride til I sell something!) I was horrified! I have never claimed from them all my crew have been healthy, so I went on a search, I was recommended to an insurance company in Glasgow Scotland that specialises in horses, (yes I am scottish - friends up north use them). I adjusted their values seen as I bred them, and I have managed to get a full year cover for vet, third party, death and replacement value for just over £800 for the year for all 4. I was astonished at the differance. What a dumbo I was sticking with NFU, would have saved myself thousands a year if a spent more time raking around!
Also we had our 3 cars with them, thats now finished. My 7 seater trooper was quoted at £600 this year and with Saga (seen as my hubby is of that age) my comprehensive cover is now £200 a year.
Dont know what they are playing at, life is hard enough just now without them being greedy!

Can't say anything about claims, fortunately (although have only really heard good things) but KBIS do this, too. My current boy's been with me for three months and has a noticeable, dark, hairless lump on his face that the seller (only other owner since a weanling) *said* had been there unchanged for life (hoorah if that was true). Of course the initial worry was sarcoids but former Olympic vet (swoon) and my own, who we've known for 20-odd years, said highly unlikely to turn out nasty, are not worried and to just keep an eye on it in future.

This was disclosed to KBIS on taking out a new policy and braced myself for any/all skin conditions to be excluded - but they've only ruled out that one specific lump. Happy days.

The renewal for my two has gone up from 650.00 per year to 1088.00 per year. Ive saved 500.00 by switching to SEIB (in the process of doing that now) all they are asking for is a full history from my vets. i'll be looking to move my home insurance too when that comes up for renewal. Ive been with them for over 12 yrs
