For the past four years I've insured my traddie cob with NFU; plus the farm insurance is with them too.

Last year my premium was £333; this year it has risen to £547 - and this in including a "mutual bonus" of £51!!! Over £200 quid extra premium.

Presumably they've seen fit to bang it up coz this year he's 15 and they think that justifies the increase.

FFS he's not a racehorse; he's a cob - and only used for happy hacking and maybe the occasional TREC day or whatever.

I know people on here have ranted on this topic before. But two hundred flippin' quid extra???? Its gotta be a joke.

Anyway, I'm going to tell them what I think about this; but ......... I am seriously thinking of transferring my custom elsewhere.

Any ideas anyone???

Same thing happened to me!!! £200 increase for my happy hacker..

I left them and they didn't try to make me stay after 6 years service! Makes me sick..

I pay over £500 for my happy hacker too, I'm claiming at present and they are paying out no problem. It was that high before I claimed. The price of veterinary cost I'm not surprised it's increased.

I posted on here couple of months back due to the same thing, really do think they are taking the P... My house is with them so will wait and see what that has gone to if its anything like the horse they can stick it !!!!

I suppose if you haven't claimed you would be very upset with the price increases. But from my point of view my premium is £500, they have paid out on my claim so far £1500. At it is going to rise substantially. Maybe they should introduce some kind of no claims system. I think in my case the increase is maybe justified, but I'd feel differently had I never claimed.

I've claimed once in the 7 years I've been with them (for a total of £450) and they put my premiums up by 30% this year for my 12 year old riding club horse - after my £90-odd mutual bonus had been deducted, they were quoting me just over £900 for the year.

I've taken my liability, personal cover and loss of use off and reduced his value to enough to cover disposal costs when he passes and they've reduced it to just over £400 for the year. They're blaming it on insurance tax and vets fee increases.

My lorry insurance is with them too but I probably won't keep this with them next year.

My tb has been insured with them the last 2 years and unfortunately in the last year have made a few big claims (collaterals, suspected fractured radius and latest is suspensories!) Although the last claim has taken a while to pay out they have not questioned anything. I was amazed that my premium only went up by £80 in total, it seems that they are stinging those that haven't claimed :-(

I have insured our new horse with kbis tho as much better policy and price but left the tb with nfu as have an on-going claim!

They've been applying such increases on a lot of policies, I posted about mine a few months ago as a 52% increase if I remember rightly was put on with no explanation. I've moved elsewhere.

I got my renewal notice today and my premium is flagged to go up 15% on last year's despite no claims - that's for a very comprehensive policy including loss of use.

You're not alone there, I've had my mare with them for 8 yrs, since she was a foal. Had one claim when she was a foal, nothing since.

With my mutual discount its gone up to £708 a year!!!!! for vets fees and public liability. £59 a month, she's still valued at her foal purchase price too £1000.

I am def swapping its very overpriced.

I've moved 3 horses and 2 dogs from NFU and have saved about £150 per month. I've gone through Julie Andrews for the horses and used Direct Line for the dogs. We still have the lorry with NFU, that's really quite cheap so will stick with it :)

The NFU premiums for my two horses increased by 42% & I can't remember the last time I ever claimed. The premium included their 'mutual bonus'. Their quote just isn't competetive infact it's ridiculous....let's face it even Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask when he robbed people!

I've transferred by business, like many others, to KBIS. The cover was very similar & much much cheaper.

I swapped from NFU to KBIS a few years ago. They have been great. Paid up on my previous horse until he was PTS. Were super on the phone with me blubbing and being very emotional. They have since paid up on our youngster for a really nasty wound on his neck and then an abscess in his foot without so much as a hesitation. Their premiums are good value and they answer the phone quickly (always a bonus), their staff know what they are doing and their paperwork is simple and they pay up quickly. Recommended!

I am halfway through a claim and my renewal is due in Nov. What is my situation if the renewal has gone up a lot, do i have to renew to continue the claim?

I'm still waiting for a claim to be settled but have now sold the horse. They assured me that if I cancelled the policy it would not effect the settlement of my existing claim. I started the process at the end of June and am still waiting for my money. Every time I ring they say they are waiting for information from my vet. The vet assures me each time I contact them that they have faxed/emailed everything they were asked for, but send it again anyway. I ring NFU again a few days later they still say they haven't received it. If I hadn't sold the horse I'm not sure what I would have done, because they would have continued to pay for any treatment (for spavin) up until next June if necessary (that's providing I get any money back at all!) so in order to keep claiming I would have had to renew despite the increased premium. In the meantime, they have just put my house and contents premium up by 25%. I used to recommend them to everybody but not any more.

All of mine are with KBIS and I have found them to be very helpful and go the extra mile to help me when I lost one to grass sickness. I tried NFU but the premiums were 3 times KBIS.

i have been insured with kbis for years... both horse and lorry

My boy turned 15 this year and my premium went up to £30 a month... I pay monthly. Last year I was paying £27 a month... I think this is reasonable and can't recommend them enough

This ^^^ Agree- KBIS are very good

Iv'e gone with KBIS, be very very careful of when your NFU cover finishes and your new insurance starts, bloody NFU left me with no insurance for about 5 days, as they told me one date on the phone an a diferent one in writing.

Just leave!

I had to do the same!

Their cover for my two and tack was 3 times the rates of other insurance companies!!!!

Fed up of paying for the board members party and smart bmws and mercs!!!!

Where's that cool nationwide advert with the funny bank manager that takes the mickey out of all the clients!

He should be the new face of NFU!

30 plus years loyalty now down the drain or rather on the muck heap!

just leave. i've just had a similar experience with my car insurance- direct line wanted to put my premium up by £90 a month for no blimmin reason! have now gone with the nfu (funnily enough!) and direct line weren't arsed! i think its a sign of the times- a lot of policies are getting much more expensive :(
