My policy with NFU was renewed at the end of May and the xs was still £120 and I have just put in a claim for G's sarcoid and paid £120 - I do hope it hasn't gone up.
mine has and they wouldn't change the value of my horse as he is insured at the mo for what i paid for him as a yearling. i want to up in as he is a 3 years old ready to break had all the basics done. imo worth more than a yearling but because i don't have receipts for schooling they wouldn't up it. so i've cancelled my policy.
I have, however, i made a claim in April for Lia's colic and they told me on the phone that the excess was now £200 but when the cheque came through they had only deducted £120
I phoned for a claim form and didn't have my up-to-date policy to hand, she told me over the phone that my excess was £200 and I didn't query it (although it def used to be £150). Must dig out the latest policy letter and see what it says. I claimed about £600 two and a half years ago for an eye op but that's all.
We had to make a couple of claims over five years ago and the premium and the excess both went up quite a lot. Plus exclusions on the policy (everything directly or indirectly related to the spine!! - following claims for osteopathy!). Really annoyed me. Don't have those horses any more though, so exclusions have gone. You do have to get a reference or competition record to justify increasing the insured value, which is a pain but you can see their point. The thing is, though, I tried ringing round other insurance companies and they simply weren't as flexible or as cheap. The NFU equine department pays up well in our experience and the cover for tack, horse lorry with breakdown, rider cover, etc., is really very good. Happy to stand corrected if anyone has any ideas about better insurance companies!
I work for them and done insurance for 15 horses today all with a £120 excess. If your policy has come up for renewal the underwriters will look at it and dependant on claims history and or age of horse amend the renewal papers. In respect of increasing value we only usually require a letter from a BHS Judge or someone like that to say the horse in now worth x amount.
Ive not increased their value ive just had one claim totalling about £1000 since last year on one horse. i have two horses on the policy and not claimed for the other
