Toby and our NH training - problems!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not sure if I am posting in the right area - but ...
My instructor hasn't been up for about two and a half weeks as she has been fully booked. Our first lesson was four weeks ago, and Toby and I have been going great guns, doing our exercises, although I must say over the past two or three sessions has been slightly mutinous about them, but done them he has.
Today, he was in a bad mood, but I was away over the weekend, had to clean on Monday night for OH meeting at the house and Tuesday had to go to a Parish Council meeting. So this afternoon, I wrote down a list of the exercises we would do and off I went to do them.
Toby initially tried to kick me. On the end of my lovely long rope, not a problem and kept him going, he made several more attempts, tried to run off, and was generally in my face. I gathered all my energy, sent him off on a circle and we managed on both circuits and he was fairly respectful - well thinking anyway as he was licking and chewing. We moved onto our figure of eights which he did and then moved onto circling at trot. He then decided rearing and boxing was the way forward, leapt about all over the place and after his last rear managed to get the rope between his legs. As he came down I had to let him go because I couldn't get the rope out of his legs as he was still mucking about. Cue gallop up the field and down again, much snorting and then stood to allow me to catch him. I WAS BRAVE! and made him do a couple of circles at a walk and then called it a night. He has of course won because if I was a proper person, I would have insisted that we return to the trotting on a circle and he would have done it. However, I thought better to finish on a half a good note, than a dreadful note - or was it?
Have ordered Clinton Andersons fundamentals package - although I could cheerfully get shot of him at this moment in time, never mind spending a small fortune! Instructor can't be with me 24/7 and think Clinton is fairly black and white which I think is what I need. Toby is not easy and is a real p.. taker.
Moan over - sorry, I suppose I knew our new honeymoon would have to end, and it has with a thud!! Instructor coming on Sunday and we are meant to start ridden - don't think I have prepared Toby properly for it
