What is the nicest compliment you have received in relation to your riding?

T_G xx

From a very old fashioned polo chap...

'You sit well... That horse wasn't going anywhere between your legs!'

Must admit I giggled...

After hacking out with a mate on her horse - 'thank you for giving her such a nice ride' :)

ETA also - 'You and [pony] obviously have a lovely partnership, he was really trying for you' :)

After being seen giving my pony a cuddle, after which she whickered at me someone commented "its lovely to see the bond between you, she obviously adores you"

I think that made me feel better than any comment I could receive on my riding! :)

I have 2 I remember very well, kind of got me really proud:)

From a stranger spectating at a show, recognising me in a cantine: ''wow, you are the one that rides like the people on telly''

From my old coach in response to my ''I know nothing'' comment: ''don't be silly, to have jumped this track on this horse you have to have been able to ride... a bit:D''

" your a nice quiet rider" when the instuctor got on my horse and realised how very light on the mouth he is!!!
Im not the best of riders some times you cant always tell how effective a rider is when you look at them till you get on there horse
I was quite chuffed :)

Probably my old riding instructer telling me that i could do anything if i set my mind to it and that she was jealous of my ability to be able to do things after being told just one time.

That made me smile =D

People always say i have lovely long legs for riding and i'm a nice quiet rider that doesn't nag! Lovely to recceive compliments!

I had a lesson with Mary king and my horse started turning herself inside out, was a project I hadnt had long and after she finished Mary said " how the hell did you sit that" I remember just saying " don't know" while catching my breath. She guessed I was from racing by my stirrups and said I had a very good secure xc seat but once she put my stirrups down for dressage it all went to pot.

Last time I was in Spain, I got two compliments from the (very demanding!) trainer there. The first was on a hack, when he said I would be aching the next day as I used my legs so well and had him walking out nicely - though I have to admit that's because I was on one of his stallions who fancied going up instead of forwards that day! Then I got on his doma vaquera horse in a Spanish saddle and he said I sat very nicely on her, again completely unlooked for.

Small comments but from him they made me very happy!

I think small comments from those who don't dish out praise are worth so much more. A simple "good" from someone like that means so much more to me than someone else dishing out undeserved praise :)

Aww, these are all lovely!

Now, to respond to my own question...
I was going to ride Evil Bonnie Coblet in a lesson as a reward for helping put. I voiced my concerns over her possibly murdering some small children and was told, "That won't happen. You are a good rider, you handle her well" EEE! No-one had really said that to me before I was SO

Was talking to the YM yesterday about helping out in the summer. I booked myself a private lesson for next week, and she says "What about a jump lesson? You need to get ready for the advanced pony week in August." (Its kind of 3-day event training, and to say I was wary would be an understatement!) I expressed my concerns, as I still find jumping little cross poles scary, let alone XC!)
Now I'm not the most confident of riders (as my please of help on here seem to show:o) but the fact that the YM thinks I can actually do it, with a bit more help... I was so happy I let out a little squeak! :)

The best for me has to be yesterday! I had just skipped out the main yard, and was throwing the muck up onto the muck heap (which for a littley like me is no mean feat!) and the YM walks past. She said, "Ruby, you are an excellent person to have on the yard". I was so touched I didnt know what to say! It may not seem like much, but those few words honestly made me feel on top of the world :o

Keep these comments coming (so to speak), they are so lovely to read!

I remember i was at a Show-jumping Comp and i was in the jump off with my horse and the class was split in to ponies and horses and this boy came up to me and said "are you in my jump off round?" and i said "no" and he said "good, as i don't want to jump against you as you really good" that made me so proud of myself as i didn't really think that i was that good and my boy as he was jumping amazing that day :D

And what made me laugh was that this boy was in my old school but he didn't recognise me lol x

I always get the You have lovely long legs also everyone on the yard loves the fact that me and the loan pony have bonded together so much, that I take her out of the field and the 10 min walk back to her stable with the invisable headcollar and leadrope :D She also shouts to me when I ride past her field on the way home

Umm difficult... One girl said after an equitation comp (in the olden days when you could swap horses) that her horse went better for me than it did for her.

BUt the best was from my dressage trainer who was /is a man of very little compliments, after I taught my welshy to do tempi changes and I quote (almost) 'F'in 'ell that orse CAN move'...

Aww, thats so sweet!

Apparently I must have an amazing lower leg.... having been told by an equitation judge (I don't show in any form, got second behind someone who clearly did that sort of stuff regularly, and was seriously pleased!) and some very old fashioned horse dealer.... why I should see that as quite as good as I do is possibly because I tend to value opinions off people like that far more than people who are just probably being nice - I've not known many dealers that are 'just nice'!
Also off another dealer/friend, he said that my mares flatwork was really good and I'd obviously done a good job with her - which is really a lot coming from him :)

A few weeks after I had got a new horse which everyone I knew had said stuff like 'don't go near that thing', 'it needs a bullet', 'its an old goat, ready for the knackers yard' 'it won't do your riding any good at all' 'You'll get hurt' (all those sorts of comments) I had hired a course of SJ at a local yard and was jumping round them (not particulary well tbh) and the YO came over and said "your such a talented rider, theres no reason why in a few years time you won't be competing at somewhere like Bramham" I was really flattered and grateful and it made really determined to succeed and prove everyone wrong! :)

Aww, thats lovely Solly! I could not ride all the horses that you do (except the coloured mare you told me about... so calm!) x

T-G, that's lovely. And deserved, I'm sure.

The one I'll always remember was when I was in my early teens (many a year ago) from a riding instructor who taught my mother, but had never paid any attention to me and always come across as seriously unimpressed. She came with us to try a horse, who turned out to be totally unsuitable and not worth the asking price. Mum was saying that the horse had looked okay when I was riding. The intructor said: 'of course she did, any horse would look okay with S riding it.'

Not true - I've struggled with many a horse in the years since - but even now I feel like I'm walking on air when I remember her saying that!

Wow!
You must be one fab rider :D

I used to ride one of Bar Hammonds Grand Prix horses called Chagall, it took me a long time to be able to ride him properly but it all clicked into place after a few months. One day after teaching me on him she said "you get him going nicer and with far more quality that I ever did" and she came 6th at the Nationals on him :)

I nearly cried when she said it, I was so delighted.

Aww thankyou! You made my day :D

That is one heck of a compliment, I bet you really deserved it! x

Wow! I can only hope to one day be good enough to ride a GP horse, well done you!

hehe, i think riding lots of different horses is what's made my riding what it is. It might not be 'perfect' but it's effective, and keeps me in the saddle, which is why it works - mostly!
That mare was lovely, I really hope she finds a nice home :)
