Nicest compliment you've received, as a rider?

Sol - they're wonderful!! You're obviously very talented, and the pics on your sig are amazing too! Do you do that as a hobby or for work too?

TG - Yes I had been meaning to check up on it, I think the summer hack idea was fun! Does your place do hacks? I was looking it up today and saw you're in the greeny part of Mill Hill!

Sadly we don't do hacks :( (There is quite a large road outside the gate!!) They do semi-private lessons, if a few people wanted to ride there... Have you rung Trent Park? x

Sanolly & T_G - thanks! :D

Cavblacks - Glad you like them :D Sort of both? I take portrait commissions (now very regularly! o.o) but painting shoes is just fun :) The Pinky & the Brain pair was a commission for a friend, and plan on doing some to put on ebay, but they're just fun to do! :p

My RI once said he hoped my horse looked as good with him riding as he did with me on him! That was the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me & a huge compliment coming from someone like him (produced well known 4* event horse in it's younger years). Granted it did take me about 5 times as long as RI to get just a brief glimmer of fab work but hey ho!!!!!! Ha ha!
He also comments frequently on how lovely my horse is - not exactly a compliment on my riding but as I've had the horse from being 4 years old & he's now 9 yrs I do like to take some of the credit for him!!!!!! :D

Ah fair enough! lol I plan to come and have a look still, horses go away for summer on Thursday so I might try a few lessons up there to keep away the withdrawal symptons!

No, will get onto that now! Watch this space!

Love them!

I may PM you soon if you dont mind, another girl who I ride at HHC with, her Dad is a photographer and coming down tomorrow to take pictures of us riding. If there's a good one it would be lovely to have as a drawing for us!
Such a nice talent to have...

from the people i bought ponio off
"well i didnt expect you to be that quiet a rider coming from a riding school"

and from a showjumper's mum at the yard
"well you do ride really well, and she looks difficult considering shes got a long neck and back"

(it was raining and pony hates rain; so had her head down and going forward from behind, she was like putty in my hands lol.... but shhh dont tell her that)

and when i rode an eventers horse
"your a lovely calm, quiet rider and ill be happy to let you ride our 4yo!!"

Yay! I'm helping out more often now, so I could show you around and be Chief Photographer for your lesson :D

Andrew Hamilton once told me i had the most velcro bum he'd seen in a long time

That i have 'beautiful hands'

I love it when im schooling and i hear whoevers in with me be told 'watch jenni, do as she does'

That i was 'born to be on the back on a horse'

i love when theres a new horse on the yard, or someones having a problem, the first comment is 'let Jenni sit on it' i take that as a compliment.

That ' One day you'll go far, you just need to find your other half'... and then a year later ' maybe i phrased it wrong when i said you needed to find another half. There are no halves about you two... you are completley and utterly whole.' i liked that one!

and my favourite... ' you look like a stereotypical barnyard barbie... at least you dont ride like one!'

Wonderful, both of these :)

TG - yeah was a really nice thing for him to say! Much nicer than 'get your fat ar$e out of that saddle' and 'he's taking the pi$$' which is what I also frequently hear!!!!! Ha ha!!!!!! :D
I once said that the Gent that owns the Estate we keep our horses on can adopt me if he wants as I'm a poor orphan! My RI said he'd tell him I have a really nice horse - that looks to be my biggest selling point then eh?!?!?!?!

That drawing is just fantastic, Sol.

Absolutley TG, when I get a free weekend or evening Ill come and have a look around and book something!

A woman who'd booked a 2 hour hack at our yard, after I'd gone out in rear file and Dylan had had all manner of numpty fits while we were out (he doesn't like being at the back, and goes a bit loopy cantering in open spaces - actually, just in open spaces lol) - "I wish I could sit on a horse the way you sit on a horse ... you just don't move!"

We can just sell you off, then I'll be able to afford a horse! Erm, that sounds a bit odd...!

Fab, drop me a PM when you'd like to :D

I also wish I could sit as still as you!!

From my instructor after a VERY heavy night drinking: "Kate, you ride really well when you have a hangover, you actually relax"

LOL, made me giggle... and he did have a point!

Ooer, maybe I should try that... No! Wait! Thats Cavblacks baaaad influence on me again ;)

Thank yooouuuu :D
Compliments may make me higher than lucozade does xD

Or vodka! (Cavblacks.... stop warping my mind via the interwebz!;):D:p)

HAHAHA Do you know what, I think I should because Id love to see what you drew! My drawings get as good as stick men and even then it's questionable what they're doing!

 uh oh, I am worried I have started something here!!!!! i havent even mentioned drink for at least 10 minutes! Crikey!

Though I am looking forward to a cold one when I get home! :D

Honestly Cavblacks...

I was teetotal before I knew you! NOW look at me, drunk, lying on the floor of College Farm mumbling about ponies, and big pink schooling whips and icecream...

Hmmm

When in a lesson with my old instructor (who wasn't the fluffy sort to heap on praise) I jumped the WH course, and as I finished she told the rest of the group "that is exactly how to ride that course, did you all see that? I want you all to ride it like that" They all looked blankly and admitted that they hadn't been watching and she made me do it all over again! I thought I was going to die of exhaustion (hot day, horse being hard work, BP and skull cap).

It was nice to be held up as an example to all the others.

I was pretty flattered when I was allowed to join in a Caroline Moore XC clinic despite not having my own horse, and very flattered when I "won the prize" at the end for the least faults. There wasn't actually a prize, just a well done, and I was the only one that went clear - on a riding school horse!

Cavalry Instructor who taught at my Military Saddle Club, notoriously fussy about who rode what, told me that he'd put me on any of his horses and also the same from a well known flat trainer after I'd ridden work on a colt he was looking at.

Hi TG! Slightly off track but when I was 12 or 13 I was riding a funny little blue roan mare at Beauport that came in as a schooling and selling project. she was ace on her own but dangerously nappy in company. I took her to her one and only outing to a one day event and my dressage comment was "A marvellous try on a difficult pony. Sit deep in the saddle and try to keep your hands still." She had napped and bronced through the whole test, with me perched on top sort of piloting her in the right direction. Eliminated first fence showjumping and first fence xc. Bearing in mind this was nearly 40 years ago when people didn't think too much about bad backs, teeth, ill fitting tack etc, the little mare proved unsellable and dangerous. I loved her and one day she just disappeared, I'm sure she was shot and I'm not condemning the people running the place at the time because that's how it was then but if she had been born today someone would have helped her through her problems.

I got told on a couple of occasions that I made one of the bigger, more difficult horses in the RS easy to ride.

My BSJA instructor said, after riding my horse, "You make him look really easy to ride, but in fact he's quite difficult". And whilst schooling once I noticed an older couple had stopped to watch. "Poetry in motion" was their comment. Ego now boosted thanks!!

Katt - Good on you, girl!

enfys - Wow!

forderough - Aw, I'm so sorry :( Sounds like you really treated her well while she was around :)

teapot - Fab :)

Alimac - That is such a nice compliment!

JessandCharlie - That is ace! :D P.S. Where did you get your siggie from?

I remembered another, which I think was supposed to be high praise but felt really quite barbed....

I did my pony club D test when I was 7. I didn't have my own pony and had been having weekly lessons for a year or so, after having originally learned by riding a neighbours companion shetland round the lanes. As I didn't have a pony I borrowed one on the day, that I had never even seen before.

The comment from the examiner (which I still have on the sheet) was "the best riding I have seen from a weekend rider" I wasn't quite sure whether to glow with pride or skulk away with my tail between my legs....... still not sure now........

the biggest compliment i was ever paid is not verbal as such, my instructor has a portugese trainer (previous olympian) and he is coming over this summer as he does every year to do a clinic. the biggest compliment??? she has offered me a place on it
