Nicest compliment you've received, as a rider?

I was told by Roland Fernyhough that I could get a tune out of anything, that made my day.

When I took my Pony Club B test last summer the examiner said "Its when I see people like you I think why do they even bother doing their B test" I was ready for some horrible comment here. The she carrys on and says "when your obviously up to A test standard and wasting time and money doing your B test". I loved that made my day!!

When i rode my old instructors ex racehorse. 'He does things for you he never does for me' and generally people saying i have a nice seat after the horse had a little bucking fest.

Can't be bothered to read through all the posts, so possibly a repeat, but the Dear Girl rode past the house last week, and a passing van driver shouted "Nice bum"!

The DG beamed at me, and yes you've got it, I replied "He was talking to the horse"! That one didn't actually go down too well!

Alec.

Katt - I suppose they were being nice in their own way, well done for doing well (IYSWIM)

Laura1234 - That definiely counts :D

Pixxie;8729344 - Have fun!

Kokopelli - Good on you, girl! Have you done your A test yet?

Denise657 - Thats lovely :)

a1b2c3 - Oh you meany! :p

First time out hunting aged 15 on my nutter of a pb arab, was told by one of the fieldmaster's mates "you have a lovely seat" was well proud as horse was in the process of trying to tank off at the time! :D

It must have been when i was telling my instructor about my score in a dressage test on my cob, and i said that 'i don't know who taught her, but she really is an amazing dressage pony', and my instructor just turned round and said 'you' as a reply. Meant a lot to me, when i thought about it.

Aww :D

When the judge in an equitation class said ' I wish I could do sitting trot as well as you do' & when a dressage judge put the comment 'horse & rider working in harmony' & when the horse I was having a lunge lesson on had a bucking fit & I had no hands no stirrups & my instructor said well sat!

When I backed my first youngster and took her to a local event pro's for a lesson. Particular pro does not hand out compliments easily and said ''you should be proud, you've done a good job with this mare'' :-)

No hands! I thought it was bad enough when having lunge lesson, pony bucks and didnt have any stirrups! Well done :D

You must be really proud!

For me, it has to be the time Ellie and I were Reserve Champs at Stoneleigh...as we rode into the ring for the prize giving, the grandma of one of my old PC friends (who had moved away - I hadnt seen her for years) shouted:

"Isnt that Georgie, the one who always fell off? How did she suddenly learn to ride so well?"

It was 8 years ago now, but I'll never forget it...chuffed me up no end :D

Fab :D

Have had ltos of lovely people say lots of lovely things about how i ride, but todays def made me smile... found someone to train me.. She was in a very simular situation to me when she was my age .. eg very little money. Shes worked her way up, ridden round burghley etc... She said i remind her alot of herself when she was younger :D She said i have very good seat and hands, and cant wait to get cracking with me and my love horsey :D :D :D I was grinning like a cheshire cat :p

my family were talking (as usual) about horses past and present, and talking about my sisters and my different riding "styles" (not the right word, but don't know what is)... my sister said that she admired my patience and the way I can give the horse the time to think things through. sounds silly, but my sister and I don't see eye to eye that much, and to hear that from her meant loads.

Also, I remember a PC instructor (and then international event rider) saying she was impressed I would even consider riding my welsh cob bareback after she told me off for not doing sitting trot bareback and I asked her to get on and show me how with his mega trot and high withers! She walked a bit funny for the rest of the week after that! ;) :D

A judge once wrote in the collective comments 'what a good partnership you have with your horse', that makes me smile everytime and yesterday my instructor said 'you and this horse as far more capable than you think'. That boosted the confidence good and proper!!

Just remembered another one... my instructor (who wasn't convinced Ron would ever jump much more than 2foot 6) after a very tough lesson said "I was wrong, he's got a good jump for a heavier horse, and his trot has a good natural rhythm for an essentially unschooled horse!" meant a lot from an instructor who's catchphrase is "i'm right aren't I" and who is used to silly WB SJ'ers! ;)

I took The welsh Cob to a BD comp the day before my birthday, we'd been struggling with impulsion for a while. We got 70% (even with an error) judges comments; "What a super test, pleasing trot & canter work especially & ridden so well between leg & hand. A pleasure to judge." She even came up to me after the results went up and asked me about him.
Traditionally I hate my birthday, so that result & judges comments made my day!

At our last BD outing a judge commented on how well established he was at Novice and that he keeps lift & elevation well. My instructor had been pushing me to try an Elementary and this cemented my decision to go for it.

"Oh! Well sat Mum!" from teenage daughter (D1) as Dizz did a particularly spectacular bob-off sideways at a rather speedy canter, throwing in a pretty nifty neck-twist-and-head-bob movement in the process :D :D :D

The other ones I like are when people compliment D1's seat/leg position, etc. She's worked damned hard over the last three years, with me shouting "Hands! Heels!" over and over again lol

:D :D :D :D

Well done y'all, some lovely comments :D

one man driving by on a hack said "you two look like you were made for each other"
my instuctor said "wow i cant belive that your the same girl and pony i saw back in september, youve come on miles!"
was at my 2nd pc rally and my pony was being a devil he kept spinning off after a jump and i kept landing infront of the saddle and the instructor asked us how well we thought the ponies were jumping and i said quie good she said no i thionk youve both been jumping AMAZINGLY! and youe got the superglue in all the right places
this ones for horsecrazy25...she wasnt there! me and her mum were watching her at a show and a man who was parked next to us came up and said "i think yours should win he looks the best and has a lovely shine on his coat-how do you get it so shiny?"

My instructor telling me i had talent....

My instructor was twice selected for the olympics and has ridden numerous GP dressage horses and was married to John Lassetter

I rode my 14.3hh conne x tb in senior bsja for a few years as i didn't want to sell and couldn't afford 3 horses and we consistantly beat big posh bred to jump show jumpers, evferyone assumed he was/is an easy push button ride until a friend borrowed him at a showground we went to on a regluar basis and he was eliminated in both classes with her, after that people looked at me/him with much more respect and the steward said i must have a sticky bum and nerves of steel to jump him like i do :D and freind said she hadn't realised how strong/difficult he is as i always make him look very easy to ride :D

Being called up after a dressage competition (first and last! LOL) to be told i had ridden very very well despite my horse being a sod! It was lovely that somneone took the time to ring me up and say that! :)
My instructor on first seeing me and my horse and saying that we could win easily at Newcomers with a bit of tweaking of our canter!
On most of my dressage sheets we get some comment commenting on mine and my horses connection and how i ride him quitley/nicely. that makes me smile that just from going round the arena they can see how much we "get" each other :D
When someone came up to me after a SJing round to say how beautifully we had jumped, never met them, no idea who they were but it was so kind of them to say it :D
ETA- the lady didn't say my horse had been a sod! but he had :D she put it more in a "you rode very well despite your horse clearly being a difficult ride!" :D

A few years ago after a bucking fit which I managed to sit, I was told I had a great leg position by a lady whose child was constantly falling off due to her weak leg position. I refrained from mentioning my trainer had made me tie my stirrups to the girth for three whole months to achieve said leg position.

Well... A couple stand out in my short riding carrier.

first one was, I was at a pony club team SJ competition and the trainer from the other team used my as an example for how you should look for a jump etc. I was quite proud of that :)

And Lionel Dunning said I was a very good rider, and allowed me to compete under his name :) Very chuffed :D
