after my gaiters came undone and started flapping about at xc the other week i feel i need to buy long boots...

however - i generally HATE them lol!
blush.gif

i can't 'feel' the horse through them
i find the scrunch up at my ankle and give me blisters and i can't move my heel/ankle etc like i'd like to

or - have i just had the wrong ones?!

i tried mountain horse sportive ones and sold them a week later on ebay (someone got a v good deal

)

how about the ariat ones? they seem nice and soft when i looked at them in the local tack shop - but these boots have to do everything - can i wear laced boots for all disciplines inc showing?! and are they ALL dressage tops now days?!?!

or made to measure? don't mind spending money if i can move in them lol!

i have sergio grasso ones which have some wierd pattern on the ankle to let you flex and move.

very nice and comfortable and need no breaking in.

i would be wary of very soft boots as they never last long!

Go for De Niros - I bought a pair at Hickstead last year and they are fab. If you want to have a look at them go to Dogwood London (google them) and they have all the different styles online. They are excellent

Ariats will bunch up at the ankles as they seem to be quite generous around the ankle! They make me look ridiculous cos I have tiny ankles and bigger calfs... Sergios are BEAUTIFUL, as are de niros

me too!!

i had the same problem with my first long boots (cavallo's) due to the shape of my legs (thin ankles in comparison to rest of leg!) i found them very uncomfy.. love, love, love my Sergio's, didn't need any breaking in and fit like a glove!!

They can - I used mine for everything including BD, although it is frowned upon, but then they should excuse me because I was also in tweed and a crash hat

ohh that's fine then - cos drssage is the one thing i'd have to be dragged kicking and screaming too lol

one day i'll grow up and learn some self discipline and start enjoying it... but not yet

they will be mainly used for xc, jx, hunting, WH and showing.. then maybe one day sj and dressage......

ok - sergio's it seems are the winners

now i'd just like to find somewhere up here that i can see them first hand before i have my spending accident.....

any chance you can remember the name of them?

think they are;

Sergio Grasso 12500 Sanremo Boot

one's with laces on;

Sergio Grasso 3500 Bergamo Boot

they look nice too!! have a wee google on sergio grasso, you should be able to find out more about looks, fittings, price etc

i will have a look online and see if i can find them- they have a sort of diamond shaped part at the ankle; invisable from far away and very smart up close!

i will try and find them...

My Sarm Hippiques are pretty beautiful and soft (im abit of a long boot addict) other major nice ones are my recently inherited from my uncle his John Lobbs are amazing but they are hmmm 40 odd years old. Regents are stiff as are Rectiligne (sp?!!?) Sarm would be my vote!!!

I have the same problem as you, and hate thick leather boots. I went for the Shires Norfolk long leather riding boots, not because they are cheaper than your average but because the leather is so so soft, it took one lesson to "break" them in, and they do feel like gaiters.

I've only had them for 2 months however, and have ridden in them every day and so far have stood the test of time!

I have been thru so many riding boots and my ariats are by a mile the most comfy and didnt take any wearing in at all - they are absolutely fantastic!

Yep, I love my Ariats and have the summer and winter versions! Agree with the poster that said they feel like short boots and chaps - I hated riding in long boots before I tried these, couldn't ever feel the horse properly in my old boots.

I have the same Sergio Grassos as Millitiger. On my 2nd pair, the 1st pair were too long, so had them cut down.
From friends boots, the ones with laces tend to drop more and bunch up a bit more.
Sergios are softer than De Niros. Maybe not quite as hard wearing though.

Totally agree - mine have gone on for years and are beautifully soft

after a "boot losing incident" where i managed to leave both pairs of leather long boots outside house, kind person moved them for a week or so....

I had an 3DE to attend that weekend so needed some boots urgently..the only ones that fitted and felt LUSH!!! - were the Ariat Bromonts, which I have always admired but never quite able to spend £200 on something like that!!

So I bit the bullet so to speak, bought them, still suffering financially for it, have since had other pairs of boots returned and sold one pair!!!

The bromonts are like wearing slippers they are comfy, warm (I have non insulated version, have skinny legs, but the regular fit actually FITS) and cannot recommend them enough......worth every penny....even if we dont eat for a few weeks more
wink.gif

thanks guys
have a plan of action - local tack shop sells ariat bromonts so as these are slightly nicer on my wallet i'm going to try them tomorrow...
and if i'm not impressed - then i'm going to go for some sergio grasso ones as there happens to be a shop online that is selling my exact size at a v nice price
wink.gif
but still £100 more than the ariats! (and they do returns if they don't fit/still not impressed!)
