I have a good job but hate working for someone (would love to be self employed) and realise that the only time when I am truly happy is when I am around horses/stable.

In all seriousness, if I could think of a way to make money out of horses I would do it! So are there any niches in the market/equestrian world which are worth exploring!

My current career path is not horsy so if I was to jump ship I would have to learn a new specialisum, but I am willing to try!

I am sure there are a lot of people on here that would love to work with horses or an equestrian based business so lets throw around some ideas……..

What about a floating mobile groom service at shows for people who go to a show on their own or have more than one horse. They could either approach you adhoc at a show or if you had a webbie book you in advance. Book you in slots to help unload, tack up, hold horse whilst get numbers and entries sorted, or walk course, read test if dressage.

Particularly for dressage when people know their times.

Just a quick idea but you'd have to look at costings etc and see if its viable.

Buyanyrug.com - make yourself a little online 2nd hand rug shop.

I'm sick of having 2nd hand rugs knocking about to sell, if i could send them all to one place for someone else to sell it would make me and robthecob very happy :D

Yup :-) all you need is some garage space and washing facilities... Copy the envirophone model, you price the rug over the phone send out a pre addressed postage bag that is pre priced.

25% on cost of every rug, 1 pound made on postage per rug per postage (so £2 per rug) you would make £25 per every £100 plus the postage. :)

Probably not going to get you rich lol but in business terms that's a pretty good return :)

The people I know who make money out of horses are an equine chiropractor and an edt. Lots of training required but you get to be your own boss and earn decent money.
I wouldnt be a groom, hard slog in all weathers, often work for people who don't want u to look after the horses how you would choose, stupidly long hours and being paid a pittance. Obviously it's not all like that but I've hated the grooms jobs I have done!

Other jobs might be to run an equestrian centre? I have a friend who does that and she earns good money and gets a cute two bedroom cottage with it as well. And she gets to drive her bosses brand new range rover :p. Hard work but she's saved up enough money to buy a house!

Or what about a sales rep for a rug company or working as a nutritionist for a feed company? Although you do still have to work for others.

You could be an equine artist? Or make jewellry out of horse hair (clutching at straws here!).

Or you could get your AI and become a riding instructor :).

Or train to become a saddler.

Lots of things :).

Hola..

I am trying all the time! Its so hard to make the leap from one industry to another! Its a huge risk especially at the moment when jobs are hard to find and everyones skint!

I am desperately looking for a yard to rent in Berkshire or even buy. I have a good budget for the right place but nothing decent is coming on the market!

I am always thinking up little ideas... ;)

Good luck - let us know when you're onto a winner and need a rep in the south east! haha
