On Sunday I was able to attend a yard visit at Seven Barrows courtesy of Owners Group. 6 Owners Group horses were shown under saddle with a full and frank warts and all commentary about each horse by Mr Henderson which was fascinating.
We were then shown In-hand Jonbon who was hot as hell despite not being in full training at the moment but this was calm for him..... Then Shiskin who was much more calm having mellowed but we were also told about the unusual long bone disease he suffered which was found after he was pulled up early in a race when favourite but obviously being very wrong under his usual jockey Nico de Boinville. Finally Constitution Hill who has such a laid back temperament it is difficult to understand how he has developed into such a machine of a racehorse. Again we were treated to a full and frank commentary about each horse. All Constitution Hill wanted to do having plodded around the surfaced oval numerous times was to get inside the surface and eat grass. He was described as being in his early training as being utterly hopeless and asleep. Then a jockey/work rider found the ON button and anyone who has watched his races will know it is spectacular despite that all he does "at home" is eat, sleep and work if he has to!!!

Oh! Lucky you, that sounded such a fun and informative visit. Fascinating the differing temperaments, the hot and the laid back.
Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the NH season getting into full swing.

I am off to Paul Nicholls in December with ROR. Then get a behind the scenes tour of Wincanton after. I am really looking forward to it. I am just fascinated by racing especially fitness.
That sounds excellent, missed seeing that or would have signed up for it.

And you didn't smuggle Shiskin out for me? Sounds a fab visit and it is lovely learning about their individual characteristics.

That sounds a really fascinating visit. I love hearing about the racehorses. It's an industry that I know so little about despite it revolving around horses.

Have you seen the video of Barry Geraghty's young daughter on CH when he was a three year old. I can't attach it but it is so sweet.
NH purchased CH from Barry Geraghty and was very upfront at the yard visit. He apparently phoned BG to ask what is this donkey you have sold me! He also said when a work rider found the "Go button" CH was spectacular. I am not surprised BG had his daughter on CH when he was 3 as this horse spends much of his time asleep/horizontal certainly was utterly unfazed by clapping, loud noises, spooky things. Amazing animal..............
